Enrichment Activities

Denver Public Schools Gifted and Talented Education coordinate the enrichment activities listed
below. Please note that these activities are NOT limited to identified GT or HGT students. All
DPS students are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Details about all of the activities will be distributed electronically once information is finalized
for the year. Please read those emails when they arrive so you can be aware of the
opportunities--and deadlines-- for these student-focused activities. In the meantime, if you have

An educational program that emphasizes creativity, teamwork, and problem solving. Student
teams solve open-ended, multi-disciplinary challenges and present their solutions at
tournaments. Each of the six competitive team challenges has a different educational and
creative focus: Technical/mechanical design, scientific exploration/theater arts,
theater/literature/fine arts, improvisation, structural/architectural design, and community service.
There is also a non-competitive challenge designed for students in second grade and younger
that introduces students to teamwork and creative thinking. Teams are tested to think on their
feet, work together and devise original solutions that satisfy the requirements of the
Challenges. Preschool-12th grade

A highly regarded national academic program that offers students an exciting opportunity to study in depth about
historical issues, ideas, people, and events. Students choose historical topics related to the annual theme and conduct
extensive primary and secondary research through libraries, archives, museums, oral history interviews, and historic
sites. After analyzing and interpreting their sources and drawing conclusions about their topics' significance in
history, students present their work in original papers, websites, exhibits, performances, and documentaries. These
products are entered into competitions in the spring at local, state, and national levels where they are evaluated by
professional historians and educators. The program culminates in the Kenneth E. Behring National Contest held at
the University of Maryland at College Park. Grades 6-8
