QUALITY PLUS TEACHING STANDARD/AKS: (I DO, WE DO, YOU DO, I CHECK)
STRATEGIES: MODELING & PRACTICE 3a1. Explain & predict the motion of a body in absence of a VOCABULARY net force and when forces are applied using Newtons 1st Law (principles of inertia). 3a3. Calculate the acceleration of an object using Newtons 2nd Law, including situations where multiple forces act together 3a4. Identify the pair of equal and opposite forces between interacting bodies and relate their magnitudes and directions using Newtons 3rd law. ESSENTIAL QUESTION: (WE DO) How can we examine apply Newtons First and Third Law to motion in our everyday life? DIFFERENTIATION: CONTENT OPENING: (YOU DO) PROCESS Bellringer: True or False; Explain your reasoning. If you punch a wall, the wall applies no force on your fist. If you kick a ball in space, it would keep going forever.
Review answers from Bellringer and introduce Issac Newton.
ACTIVITY: (I DO, WE DO, YOU DO, I CHECK)
We will review concepts of Newtons Laws and how the laws are exhibited throughout everyday life. WRITING ACTIVITIES: We will examine the principles of inertia and how the concept Bellringer and Closing questions applies to the Newtons 1st Law. We will introduce the concept of balanced and unbalanced forces and how they can also be applied to Newtons 1st & 3rd law. CLOSING: (WE DO) Review Newtons 1st and 3rd Law and further explain how KEY VOCABULARY: those concepts are seen in everyday life. Inertia Balanced ASSESSMENT: (I CHECK) Acceleration Equilibrium 1. Mr. Smith and Mr. Taylor are playing catch in space. Mr. Forces Velocity Taylor misses a throw. Describe the motion of the ball after Unbalanced Mr. Taylor misses the catch. 2. Explain examples of Newtons laws occurring in the class right now. MATERIALS AND RESOURCES Materials from science Department
