3. Installing GR-TIEMS

When installing the GR-TIEMS software on a PC, the operating system Microsoft Windows XP,
Windows 7 must already have been installed.
Take the following steps to install the GR-TIEMS software using the setup program. The setup program is
delivered on a CD-ROM. GR-TIEMS has two install packages.
- GR-TIEMS function package
- GR-TIEMS Model Database package
You can install/uninstall separately each package, and does not affect to each other. But you have to install
both packages to work GR-TIEMS correctly.
If you have previously installed an old version of GR-TIEMS and are installing the new version, you have to
uninstall the old version.
Caution:
The File editing by your MIMIC engineering is included in GR-TIEMS function package.
This file will be stored in %ALLUSERSPROFILE%TOSHIBA folder.
When you install GR-TIEMS function package, the installer ask to you Overwrite or not. If you have been
already editing this file by MIMIC engineering, then you have to choose not overwrite.

To install GR-TIEMS, do the followings:

- Close GR-TIEMS.
- Insert the CD-ROM into a CDROM drive.
- If you want to install the GR-TIEMS function package, execute GR-TIEMS_XX_YY_ZZZZ.exe in the
CD-ROM
- If you want to install the GR-TIEMS function package, execute GR-TIEMS-MDB_XX_YY_ZZZZ.exe
in the CD-ROM

ASDUs of a s lave IED by drag-drop actions on
the list view. Multiple data items can be dragged
from one position and dropped onto a new
position in the list view.
Data item before arranged. User select data item

8.8 Modbus Configurator

8.8.1 Purpose
Users use Modbus protocol to perform communications between other IEDs and edit data of G2 IEDs.
Modbus data has Modbus Slave and Modbus Master data. Either Slave Data or Master Data can be
edited at a time.

8.8.2 Function Overview

(1) About Modbus
Modbus has four types of data types and attributes called Modbus Data Model, and the Modbus
Data Model consists of Modbus Address which has a unique number each.
(a) Modbus Data Model
According to the Standard, there are four types shown in the list below, and t he address is
systemized according to the types.
Data Model Data Type Attribute

Discretes Input Single bit Read-Only

Coils Single bit Read-Write
Input Registers 16-bit word Read-Only
Holding Registers 16-bit word Read-Write

(b) Modbus Address

The Modbus Address is a unique number which specifies memory area of a slave unit which is
designated by a master unit with the Function Code. The Modbus Address needs to be specified in
advance by a slave unit.
The Modbus Address can be expressed in a positive integer in five figures from 00000 to 65536.
One Modbus Address has a memory area of 16 bits.

(2) Slave Function

This is the function to assign a Data ID to the Modbus Address.

(a) Modbus Address for GR-Series
The Data Type (Data ID) of GR-Series IEDs have following types: Boolean, Bit, 8-bit, 16-bit, 32-bit,
64-bit and characteristics. The Table 5 shows the Modbus Address map system for GR-Series
IEDs. Configuration needs to be followed according to this classification.

Table 5. GR-Series Modbus Address map system

(3) Engineering method

There are two ways to conduct configuration of Modbus mapping.
(a) Mapping of Modbus Address and Data ID
Assign a Data ID to a specified Modbus Address classified as shown in the Table 5 above.
A user can assign the Data ID on the signal list to the Modbus Address which is classified by Data
Model and Data Type by drag and drop.
This tool can automatically assign the Modbuss Address by judging from attribute of the Data ID.
(b) Mapping of Function Code (FC) of specific use and Data ID
Assign Data ID for following two types of FC.
1) Read Exception Status (FC=0x07)
It is used to inform a master unit of exception event (maximum 8 statuses) of a Slave unit.
The GR-TIEMS can configure the information by selecting an arbitrary signal from the Signal
List (exception events 1 to 8). The object is a binary value only and numerical figures cannot be
set.

2) Return Diagnostics register (Included Diagnostics FC=0x08) for only Serial communication
It is used to inform a master unit of a diagnosis information such as communication status and
internal failure (maximum 16 statuses).

274
TOSHIBA 6F2M1082
The GR-TIEMS can configure the information by selecting an arbitrary signal from the Signal
List (diagnosis information 1 to 16). The object is a binary value only and numerical figures
cannot be set.

8.8.3 How to use
(1) Start
You can choose way to start after selected an IED on the Project Tree, which is by the GR-TIEMS
Main Launcher or by the GR-TIEMS Main Menu.
- Click the Modbus by the GR-TIEMS Main Launcher.
- Select the Configurator -> Convertor -> IED Communication -> Modbus by the
GR-TIEMS Main Menu.

(2) Operation procedure

(a) Create new Modbus slave mapping data

Click New Icon on the Tool bar or execute File ->

New command.

(b) Change display mode

User can change display mode between the Simple

mode and the Detail mode.
In the Detail mode, user can set the more detail
information (Period and Timing). These
information are important for IEDs behavior,
therefore basically these changes not
recommended.

(c) Signal assignment for the Modbus Address

276
TOSHIBA 6F2M1082
User can drag & drop from any signal of the Signal
List to the Modbus Address area.
This tool automatically assign to the Modbus
Address at your selected signals attributes.
If user already knows signals attributes, user can
drop signal to the reserved Modbus Address.

(d) Change assigned the Modbus Address

User can change the Modbus Address directly.

After double click the Modbus Address, this area
become edit mode and user can change value using
keyboard.
The value is correct, user press [Enter] key on the
keyboard.

If changes value already used another signal, then

each related Modbus Addresss background color
will be changed from normal to red.

277
TOSHIBA 6F2M1082
(e) Re-numbering the Modbus Address

The Modbus Address will lose continuity with each

engineering work.
As this time, you want to re-numbering the Modbus
Address.
This command execute from Edit -> Re-numbering
menu, and after finished this command, all Modbus
Address scope will be renumbered continuously.

(f) Filtering

User can display Modbus Address using filter.

(g) Signal assignment for the Specific Function Code

In the Specific Function Code, one is the Read

Exception Status, one is the Return Diagnostics
Register.
Each code can create signal by drag & drop from
the Signal List.
Drag & drop item of the Signal List that can be
assigned only any signal. User cannot assign any
measurement items.

(h) Input Engineering Data Name

Date and a memo can be written about the data

write in IED.
Date and memo which were written in can be
referred to in IED.

To open Input Engineering Data Name dialog,

click Edit -> Input Engineering Data Name on
main menu.

As for the default date, the time of the creation

date of data is recorded.

It is a memo of a maximum of 20 characters, and

can input arbitrary characters.

An error dialog is displayed when the number of

input characters is over 20 characters.

(i) Print

User can print current displayed items by filter

conditions.
