Homework 5 - Mechanical Vibrations

1. Using Abaqus, Ansys or the software package of your choice. Find the First 3 modes of
vibration (print the frequencies in Hz) of a beam fixed at one end (x=0) and simply
supported at the other end (x=L).

The beam is a W410 x 85 beam made of aluminum A6061-T6 and have a length of 2 m.

2. A plane wing is modeled as a plate fixed on one of its borders as shown in the figure.
The wing is made of 8 layers of carbon fiber of high strength each of 2 mm as shown in
the figure. Determine the first 10 frequencies and mode of vibration of the wing.
