Drivers Training
All drivers of a team will be required to attend Drivers Training in Bangalore, organised by
Mean Metal Motors where they will be trained under licensed trainers. The schedule for the
Driver Training Program will be sent to registered team captains and will also be shared on
the website. It is mandatory for all the drivers to attend the Driver Training Program. In case
the drivers have attended the training held for ISK 2015 or ISK 2016 for Hyderabad, they do
not have to attend the training again. In case of change of the driver, the new driver will have
to attend the Driver Training Program in order to participate in the main event.

Teams/Colleges that have participated in the ISK 2015 2016 are required to have the same
team name and at least a newly designed frame. It is the responsibility of the team to show
supporting evidence for the same.

It is also required for the drivers to apply for their FMSCI Drivers licenses well in advance
of the event, without which they wont be allowed to participate.

1. Kart Requirements
Definition of a Kart: A kart is a single seat land vehicle without a roll cage, roof or a
cockpit, without suspensions, with 4 nonaligned wheels that are in contact with the ground, of
which the front wheels control the direction and the rear provide power, connected by a one
piece axle to transmit the power. The main parts are the chassis (including the bodywork), the
tires and the engine.

2. Chassis Design Requirements

Description
The chassis frame is the central and supporting part of the whole kart. It must be sufficiently
resistant to be able to absorb the charges produced when the kart is in motion.

Function
It is the main supporting element of the vehicle.
It serves as the rigid connection of the corresponding main parts of the chassis and for
the incorporation of the auxiliary parts.
It gives the kart the necessary solidity for possible forces occurring when it is in
motion.
It is composed of:
i) Chassis frame
ii) Chassis main parts
iii) Chassis auxiliary parts: In order to make the kart more solid, special tubes and
profiles (auxiliary parts) may be mounted. However, they must not result into
risking the safety of the driver as well as of the other competitors.

Requirements
Steel tubular (Ex. AISI 1020, AISI 4130) construction with a cylindrical section only.
Alloy steels having at least one alloy element, the mass content of which is 5% are
forbidden.
All parts made from the composite material are forbidden on the kart, except for the
seat, the floor and the chain guard.
The use of titanium on the chassis is forbidden.
The flexibility of the chassis frame corresponds to the elasticity limits of the tubular
construction.

All the chassis main parts must be solidly attached to one another or to the chassis frame. A
rigid construction is necessary; no articulations (mobile in 1, 2 or 3 axes). Articulated
connections are only authorized for the conventional support of the steering knuckle and for
steering. Any other device with the function of articulation in 1, 2 or 3 axes is forbidden. Any
hydraulic or pneumatic absorbing device against oscillations is forbidden. The rear shaft
(axle) must have a maximum external diameter of 50 mm and a minimum wall thickness of
1.9 mm at all points.
The rear axle must be of magnetic steel.

5
The rear shaft thickness must at all points (except in key housings) be as a minimum:

The mechanism to shift gears at shifter shaft of gearbox from gear shifter at
steering column can be lever or cable operated.

If a lever (with pivot arms) mechanism is used, care should be taken that the
links pass along the steering column support thereby not hindering the ingress and
egress of the driver.

Use of Pneumatic or solenoid operated shifter is permitted, controls of which

should be in accordance with section 3.5.

If Pneumatic system is used, 5/3 type 2 with double spring return direction
control valve is recommended. Tanks meant for storing pressurized gases are only
to be used. All tubes and connectors should be for pneumatic systems. Tubing
should be routed such that there is no safety hazard, preferably with safety casing.
Mounting of the cylinder and tank should be away from hazardous elements. Use
of Pressure regulator is mandatory. Teams are to get extra pressurized tanks or
compressors by themselves.

If solenoid operated shifter is used, control should be through relays. Solenoid

assembly should be away from hazardous elements. Wiring should be routed
through a safety casing. Use of fuses for the rated current is mandatory.

15.4 Clutch

The clutch should be paddle operated and if operated individually from the gear
change mechanism, it should be on the right side of the steering column,
operation and shape being similar to automotive paddle shifter.

It is highly recommended that teams use an integrated mechanism where pulling

the gear shifter towards the steering column actuates the clutch, fore and aft
motion causes gear to shift.

Additionally if a team chooses to use a rod shaped shifter and or clutch lever it
must have a large ball end. (Similar to a gear knob from a car)

Use of motorcycle levers is strictly prohibited.

15.5 Fuel and Position of Fuel Tank

The karts must run on Petrol.

The placement of fuel tank should be such that it maintains a proper
distance from the engine and also it should not be above the battery.
It must be securely fixed to the chassis and be designed in such a way that
neither it nor the fuel pipes (which must be flexible) present any danger of
leakage during the event. A quick attachment to the chassis is strongly
recommended. The tank shall in no way be shaped to act as an
aerodynamic device.
The tank must supply the engine only under normal atmospheric pressure
(this means that, apart from the fuel pump located, any principle or system,
mechanical or not, which may have an influence on the internal pressure of
the fuel tank is forbidden).
It is mandatory to place it between the main tubes of the chassis-frame
and mounted on main tubes ahead of the seat and behind the rotation
axis of front wheels, i.e. under the steering column.
The fuel pump must have a return line to the tank, i.e., fuel pump
should not act against the float of carburettor this can be achieved by using
a T junction where one end is connected to outlet of pump other end to
inlet of carburettor and the third end being the return line, back to the tank.

15.6 Muffler and Exhaust

Concept of Go-Green should be kept in mind while selecting the appropriate

exhaust system. In order to reduce the noise, efficient exhaust silencers are
compulsory. The exhaust system shall discharge behind the Driver and shall not
operate at a height of more than 45 cm from the ground. The external diameter of
the exhaust silencer outlet must not exceed 3 cm.
It is forbidden for the exhaust in any way to pass forward and across the plane in
which the Driver is seated in his normal driving position.
The noise limit in force is 108 dB/A maximum, including all tolerances and the
influence of the environment. Checks may be carried out at any moment during
the event. Any infringement ascertained during a check in an event can lead to
penalty or disqualification.

15.7 Battery
Only sealed, leak proof (maintenance free) batteries are allowed.
The proper instructions for use prescribed by the Manufacturer must be respected,
and the presence of the EC and markings for Lithium battery must be
ascertained.
They must be located within the chassis perimeter and be mechanically attached to
the chassis-frame such that it doesnt pose any safety concerns.
The battery must have a safety strap which prevents it from moving out of the
battery box.
