Initiation:
Good morning everyone, today we are going to be continuing our tennis unit. We are going to
focus on the use of the defensive lob shot and how to get back into a good defensive position.
Before we start a new skill, lets all jog around the tennis courts and discuss all the previous
skills we have learned. Can someone say to the whole class what you and your partner said?
Very good, now find someone that is wearing the same color shirt as you and discuss the key
parts of an overhand serve and where you have to serve the ball for it to count. Very good!
With that same partner find another group to make a group of four and when I call your group
you will each grab a racquet and one ball and find an open spot on a court. We are going to
rally and see if we can incorporate an overhand serve. Do not start hitting until I say it is okay.
Any questions?

Differentiated Instruction:

Have the students play but instead of using the full doubles lines to count in, they will
use the singles lines.

Closure:
Very good work everyone. Can you tell the person next to you what a lob shot should look like
if properly done? (Have someone say out loud what it looks like). Exactly, now can everyone
point to the part of the court that you want to land your lob shot? That is right you want to land
it near the back of the court, and why is that? Yes! Because it gives you more time to get back
into a defensive position so you do not get scored on. I hope everyone has a great rest of your
day and I will see you next class!

Reflective lesson analysis:

After doing my lesson I felt like overall I did a good job. I definitely need to project my voice
more so all the students can hear if they are further away. Also I need to move around the
entire area. I did notice myself on one side of the courts so next time I would need to get to the
other side more too. I felt like my lesson was affective. The progressions were very good. I
could make them more fun for the next time I teach it by putting targets near the back of each
court so the students can try and hit them. All in all I think I did a god job teaching this lesson.
