2017 Belvoir Enlisted Spouses Club

Scholarship Application Packet


The Belvoir Enlisted Spouses Club (BESC) was founded in 1980 by a small group of women who
saw a need in their community and decided that, together, they could make a difference. The
BESC is a 501c(3), nonprofit organization and has given over $60,000 in Higher Education
Scholarships for military dependents trying to further their education. The BESC hosts several
events within the community to help raise money for its annually-granted military dependents
scholarships. All applicants will be reviewed anonymously by an impartial selection committee
and judged on the following criteria: educational goals, character, need, self-motivational
factors, extracurricular activities, and interests. The awards have no correlation to BESC
membership.

Eligibility Requirements:

You must be either a spouse or child/dependent of active duty, reserve, guard, retired,
or family of deceased military personnel.
All applicants sponsors must reside in the National Capital Region.
All applicants must possess a valid military I.D.
Military spouse applicants must be currently pursuing, or planning to pursue, higher
education at an accredited college or vocational-technical institution of his/her choice
for the 2017-2018 academic year.
Child/dependent applicants must be high school graduates and planning to pursue an
undergraduate education at any accredited college or vocational-technical institution of
his/her choice for the 2017-2018 academic year.

Additional Information:

Award will be granted to the student through the Dean of Admissions of the chosen
institution following the submission to this Committee of verification, in writing, of
enrollment in a program of continuing education beyond the high school level, during
the 2017-2018 academic year.
No award will be granted to the recipient of a military academy appointment, or the
winner of an ROTC scholarship, or other comprehensive scholarship.
Grading rubric is available upon request.
Plagiarism of any kind will result in the immediate disqualification of the scholarship
candidate.
Winning applicants will be notified of the decision in writing on or before April 30, 2017.
No rejection letters will be mailed out.
Scholarship recipients are asked to attend a small BESC event to meet the Club
members prior to the Award Ceremony.
The Scholarship Award Ceremony is scheduled for late May 2017.

transcript.
Household Income: LES and/or pay stub for all employed adults.
A copy of your proof of military affiliation.
Two letters of recommendation from teachers or employers.
Name, address, and telephone number of one personal reference.
500-750 word essay.
Applications must be emailed by 11:59pm, April 1, 2017. Email requirements to:
