Go through the activity and tutorial Learn How to Craft a Super Coaster on the Jason Digital Lab Coaster Creator
http://content3.jason.org/resource_content/content/digitallab/4859/misc_content/public/coaster.html
Use this space to jot down answers to 10 questions as you watch the tutorial on How to Craft a Super Coaster. These information will be
important when you create your own roller coasters:
Formulas: Potential Energy of your coaster = Mass x g x height (where g is the pull of gravity)
Kinetic Energy of your coaster = Mass x Velocity x Velocity
1. What is the mass made up of on the roller coaster ? 800kg
2. How will the height affect the PE? it will decrease the energy
3. When the coaster starts down the hill, potential energy is increased or decreased? increased
4. When does the potential energy get changed into kinetic energy? when the coaster goes down the first hill.
5. How will a very high hill impact the speed and Kinetic energy of your coaster? then it wont make it over
6. What does gravity have to do with the speed of the roller coaster going down a hill and then up another hill?it wont make it up the next
hill.
7. What is the amount of kinetic energy at the top of the first hill?60.4 m/s
8. When does the Kinetic Energy get converted or transferred into Potential Energy? As the coaster goes down the hill, gets to the bottom, or
begins to go up another hill?when you go down the first hiil and when you go up the next hill.
9. What does gravity do? The higher the first hill is, what will gravity cause?it keeps the cart on the coaster.
10. How will increasing the number of cars (and therefore riders) have on your design?it helps it make it to the end.
Additional notes or information you feel are important to keep in mind:

Considerations and tips for how you want your roller coaster to be rated:

Most difficult (this is based on vertical distance between beginning and end)
Having the most rider screams (more riders = more screams)
Highest top speeds (steeper or longer downhill run)
Best stopping accuracy (has to end closest to the end without crashing)

MY LEARNING GOALS: - things I want to learn more about roller coasters and the physics
1. whats more some metal bars for the coaster or are the carts heavier.
2.what is the story about making the first roller coaster.
3. what are your favorite ride.

IMPORTANT: Open and read the Coaster Planning Chart Directions that explains how to use the
How to Build Your Roller Coaster Right Now! activity and how to complete the Coaster Design
Charts below.
