Dear Parents,
Can you believe that its the end of the first quarter already? I look forward to discussing your
childs progress with you during Conference Week. Please keep in mind that we have a tight
schedule of back to back twenty minute sessions each day.
For the second quarter, students will have the opportunity to increase their score of any grade less
than 80% if they get the paper signed by a parent and correct it on a separate piece of notebook
paper within 3 school days. They will also need to complete an error analysis form and a review
sheet. The original score and the corrected score will be averaged.
Grading Scale-
A 90-100
B 80-89
C 74-79
D 70-73
F 69-0
Math: We just finished learning how to find the area and perimeter of rectangles and practicing
solving multiple step word problems. The students should be writing an equation with a variable and
an answer statement written in a complete sentence. They should also get into the habit of checking
the reasonableness of their answers.
On the Weebly Parent Resources tab on http://mrstorch.weebly.com/ you can find wonderful
parent math videos for the first and second quarters as well as downloadable information sheets.
We will be learning about different multiplication strategies that you may not be familiar with. I
would be happy to print them for you if you dont have access, just let me know.
Science: We are finishing up our water cycle unit. The students will complete a video explaining the
water cycle. Look for those to be posted on Seesaw. The students will finish their meteorologist
weather reports soon!
Coming Up in Science: Provide real world examples of balanced and unbalanced forces.
Explain the effects of forces on objects and how simple machines use forces in order to do work on
an object. Explain how gravity affects the motion of an object.
Teamwork: Were focusing on how to be prepared for class, how to transition quickly, how to solve
problems in various ways, and how to recognize good character traits in others.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! Mrs. Torch
