Standard 1 Feedback: Knowthestudentsandhowtheylearn
Your knowledge of your students is excellent. In today's class, you had students with central
auditory processing disorder, anxiety, low comprehension skills, ADHD, ODD, dyslexia,
discalculia and disgraphia. You also had designed strategies to assist them, including being
still when talking, issuing explicit instructions, providing visual cues, encouraging peer
learning, carefully sequencing activities and using computer aided instruction. You adopted
a very inclusive approach to teaching this class. Everyone felt that they were a part of the
lesson today. The group work allowed them to work with their peers in a collaborative
manner. Your

Your content knowledge is very good and your explanations are broken down so that this
content can be understood. Your objective was to have the students identify management
strategies for coastal issues, after reading the accompanying information. Most of them
were able to draw a diagram and write a simple description, then talk about what they had
written with their group members. You recognise that this class is only capable of dealing
with a minimal amount of work and you planned accordingly.

Your planning is meticulously done and highly organised. Lessons are linked to the
curriculum and your objectives are specic. Over the term, you have rened your teaching
and are now using a more explicit approach. All lessons are well-sequenced and scaffolded
to build on prior knowledge. Many aspects of teaching have now become automatic and you
do them without having to think about them. Today, you demonstrated the ability to adapt
and modify your plans in response to the students' needs during the learning experience.

Clear instructions were given to the students and they followed your directions
appropriately. You were aware of all behaviour and managed it using low key responses,
such as proximity. This was very effective in that it didn't allow the behaviour to escalate.
The students respect you and generally settle down when instructed to do so. This is not an
easy class and much time was spent keeping them "on task". You did this well and all
students felt safe and supported.

Your FPDs demonstrate your understanding of the assessment process. You possess a range
of different, purposeful assessment strategies which are relevant to the learning experience
and your intended goals. Constructive verbal and written feedback is used to support
learning. The plan, teach assess cycle is understood and used well.
