Forty-four professional truck drivers, representing eight West
Comments from Virginia-based motor freight companies, competed in the
West Virginia Trucking Associations Annual Truck Driving
Championship (TDC) on June 17, 2017, at Winjean Trucking
the President Company in Buckhannon, WV. I would like to take this
opportunity to thank Winston McHenry for allowing us to
hold this event at Winjean. His kindness and generosity are
matched by no one! Also, a big shout out to Winston, II, and all the folks at Winjean for their
hard work leading up to and during the event! You guys are the best!
I would also like to thank our TDC Chairman Gary Richard of Pitt Ohio. While Gary makes this
event look like it is easy to pull off, Im here to tell you that he puts in countless hours before the
event ever happens! Also, thanks to all of our other wonderful volunteers too! Without you guys,
this event would not be possible!
As you know, this event was held just two weeks after we lost Jan Vineyard. I know for me and
for many others this event was not quite the same this year. I kept looking for her throughout
the day and listening for that infectious laugh. While she may not have been there physically, I
know that she was watching out for us and she was so proud, as she always had been, of our
West Virginia drivers. Because the trucking industry had no bigger champion than Jan Vineyard,
we changed the name of the Grand Champion Award to the Janet Smith Vineyard Grand
Champion Award. Congratulations to Larry Gorby for being the first recipient of this award!
Our member companies and their drivers represent the best of the best in West Virginia. We
could not be prouder of you! Thank you for keeping our highways safe and being the faces of the
trucking industry in West Virginia!
