Chapter meetings for all co-workers are held each month on the second and fourth Mondays at 6:30 P.M.
I hope everybody had a safe and healthy summer. How fast did that go? But as someone near and dear to me
once sang, What a long, strange trip its been!
First, I would like to congratulate everyone in this lodge because Claymont 847 earned the Premier Lodge
Award for fiscal year 2016-2017!! But more specifically I would especially like to thank two people, Sharon Bertrand
and Mike Slotwinski. They are the unsung heroes and backbone behind us earning that award. Besides helping in
the social quarters, Sharon is in the office every weekend making sure our Eyes are dotted and our Teas are crossed.
See where I went with that?....and keeping Mike somewhat sane. Thank you Sharon.
Mike, however, is a different story. Mike is at the lodge every day. He is there for every project we do.
He never misses a mens meeting, joint meeting, district meeting or convention. He is on call 24/7/365. Who does
the bartender call when the toilet is backed up? When the books get hit? When the ticket machine breaks or when
we are out of hot dog rolls? And, who does the alarm company call at 1:30 in the morning after a long holiday
weekend when our lodge has been broken into? Mike Slotwinski. Thank you, Mike, for everything that you do!
So, regarding the alarm company thing. As you all know, your lodge was robbed about a month ago. We have
changed procedures and taken extra precautions to help ensure it does not happen again. And, we have asked for
help from anybody, including the police. We also realize that the Delaware State Police have a few more important
crimes to solve like murder, armed robbery, carjackings and such versus our $2,500 incident (including damages).
Who would have thought the lodge officers would become detectives, but we have reached out to our friends in the
field and are chasing down numerous leads as to the whereabouts of some suspects. Hopefully good news to come.
So thank you to those who have helped during this stressful process.
Again, thanks to Sharon and Mike and to everyone for supporting our parties, our crab feast, our lunches and
dinners. Oh, did I mention that this is the SIXTH year in a row that we have earned the Premier Lodge Award? !!
Congrats to us!
As an aside, I would like to congratulate Lee Anderson. For all of Lees hard work over the years..
the choir, golf tourneys, fundraising, etc., Lee is being inducted into the St. James Hall of Fame on September 29.
Youre the Man!
Fraternally,
Andrew Zeager
I would like to thank everyone who has given me support, prayers, and love through my husbands sickness and
then the death of my beloved Smitty. Thank you is not enough for all the hard work Rita Anderson and her crew did
for the funeral luncheon. The food donations and monetary gifts for Smittys luncheon are much appreciated and
everything was beautiful and delicious. Thank you, thank you, thank you and God bless you all.
Our lodge has had a busy busy Summer with all the activities and fundraisers that were held. Everyone has
worked very hard and it is greatly appreciated.
I am looking forward to all of our Fall and Winter activities. We can use help always because its only a few
members who help all the time. We can always use some additional members to help us out with all of the planned
activities. Theres something for everyone to do no matter how small or large the task.
Have a wonderful Fall and Winter. I hope to see you at our upcoming events.

A CHRISTMAS LESSON
By Julesies
A New Years resolution is a promise a person makes for the new year. Regardless of what
resolution you commit to, the goal is to improve life in the coming year.
Resolutions can come in many forms. Some people make a promise to change a bad habit while
other people make a promise to develop a positive habit.
The tradition of New Years resolutions dates back to 153 B.C. January is named after Janus, a
mythical god of early Rome. Janus had two facesone looking forward, one looking backward.
This allowed him to look back on the past and forward toward the future.
On December 31, the Romans imagined Janus looking backward into the old year and forward into
the new year. This became a symbolic time for Romans to make resolutions for the new year and
forgive enemies for troubles in the past.
The Romans also believed Janus could forgive them for their wrongdoings in the previous year.
The Romans would give gifts and make promises, believing Janus would see this and bless them
in the year ahead. And thus the New Years resolution was born!
