STEP INTERNING

Introduction to the concept


The concept of interning is a process, adopted, to introduce the students with practical aspect of legal
education and to give them exposure at various platforms starting from all levels of Courts, Tribunals, to
Law enforcement and preservation machineries like Police, Prison, tax and ancillary bodies related to
law. Interning not only helps a student to understand the practice of a particular law applied in a
practical forum but helps him/her to develop personal relations with possible employers. It is a
multifaceted concept and is extremely important for every law student to follow sincerely.

Who can apply?


It is planned to be made mandatory to all law students, starting from 1 st Sem. till 8th Sem. Ninth and
10th Sem. students have been exempted from interning as they are usually in the process of final
placements.

Duration of Interning Process


In general there shall be total eight interning periods (not less than twenty weeks, during the entire
course), which shall be in the following manner (The University shall adopt the time table guidelines
issued by Bar Council of India, vide letter no ........... Dated..............................)

The Process
The University shall prepare a booklet, carrying essential forms and give one booklet to each student at
the time of each interning schedule.

It shall be a comprehensive document having five specific sections as follows


1. Students Bonafide information: This section shall carry all personal information of the student,
including his/her name, Fathers Name, Universitys Id no, Phone no etc, to confirm the
studentship( Kindly see the annexure for details)
2. Request letter: This section shall have a request letter issued on behalf of the University,
addressing the Head of prospective institution/Court/Law Firm etc. to undertake the student for
practical training and confirmation of his/her progress during the training.
3. Daily report section: This section shall carry date wise specification, to be used to record daily
activities specifying day to day assignments undertaken by the student, at the end of training
the supervising officer shall sign and certify the activities.
4. Certification Section: This section shall have a template of certificate, to be filled and signed by
the Supervising officer issued in favour of the intern student, carrying overall progress and
conduct during the interning along with any recommendation, if required.

Where to Intern?
On the basis of Semester wise understanding and legal knowledge, the Students shall be directed to go
for interning, in the following manner (It is an identical list only)

Every student, as per his/her semester status, will be free to search any institution of eminence at
desired place and collect a consent letter from that institution, which in turn, be a base of issuance of
recommendation letter in favour of the student.

Students Responsibilities
1. Every student shall follow interning instructions and time table, as per the University almanac,
strictly. Interning is a compulsory activity for each student.
2. Each student is required to get all the formats completed in all respect i.e. ensure signature on
requisite document by the appropriate authority and get it sealed.
3. All completed formats are required to be submitted to the Directorate of Internship and
Placement, after returning from the Interning in original. Any error and non compliance will be
students individual and exclusive responsibility.
4. The Directorate is free to inquire and take the feedback from the place of interning or the
supervisor of the interns, without intimating the student at any time before, during or after the
interning. All reports, so collected, shall be taken in strict confidence and effect the students
performance.

Interning Instructions
1. No student shall be allowed to undertake Internships under their relatives or family members. If
the same is proved, requisite disciplinary action will be taken by the Directorate.
2. The Directorate of Interning and Placement may reject to approach an organisation if it is
satisfied that the CGPA/Academic record of a student is not satisfactory.
3. The minimum CGPA must be 3.00 out of 5 to resort the official mechanism for Internships.
4. Any Internship proposal, offered to the Directorate, shall be open to all the students unless the
criteria are predetermined by the concerned organisation. Internship though, cannot be claimed
as a matter of right.
5. CVs of all the students shall be in the Uniform format as provided by the Directorate. The
Directorate reserves the right to reject a CV if format given is not adhered.
6. The Internship diary must be submitted to the Directorate within two weeks after the
completion of the Internship period. On submission of Diary a small viva/power point
presentation, will be taken on the works undertaken by the student during his Internship.
7. The marks of same must be recorded and maintained to be calculated cumulatively in the
prescribed Clinical paper of the course as per Bar Council Rules.
8. Any concealment, misrepresentation or fraud for a fact(s) in the Internship Diary or Certificates
shall render the student to be barred from the activities of this Directorate permanently.
9. The Directorate shall maintain the records of all the students who commit default pursuant to
the rules framed for this purpose and must also specify the punishments allotted to the
concerned students for the same. For deciding a subsequent case the Directorate may resort to
the Precedents as applicable.
10. Every Internship record will be kept by the Directorate enabling them to verify and crosscheck
the given information at the time of Final Placements of students. If a particular Internship is not
brought on record then the Directorate shall reject to acknowledge the same during the final
placement record file for that particular student, who shall have no locus standi to claim for the
same to be brought on records subsequently.
11. Any communication to the Directorate shall be addressed on the official E mail ID as
subsequently notified for the same purpose.
12. If an Internship is done without the knowledge and authorization of the official channel then
Institution holds no responsibility about the same for any consequences.
13. If any student is aggrieved by any order of the Directorate he/she may approach the Dean with a
written application with his grievances.
14. Dean reserves the right to override all or any provision of these rules or on any order (s) made
pursuant to these rules.

Essential Formats
A booklet carrying all essential formats be provided to each student, which in turn, be completed by the
supervisor of interning student, and return back to the student, besides this the same office shall send a
direct confidential report to the University to avoid any discrepancy.
