Students will further develop effective, reading
strategies employing fictional and non-
fictional texts. They will interpret the main
ideas and purposes of the texts and use
strategies to locate, select and record key
information.
WRITING:
Students will be engaged in writing non-
fiction/fiction texts including reports, poetry
and narratives.
SPEAKING & LISTENING:
Developing listening skills in group and
individual contexts.
Developing skills in the clear presentation of
ideas in formal and informal situations.
NUMERACY NUMBER:
Mental strategies – Addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division facts.
Rounding numbers, estimating, counting
Place value from tenths to 1000 +
Fractions – common and decimals

LEARNING Topic about Disasters
Students explore the concept biodiversity and
discover how living and non-living elements
all play a role in the workings of an
ecosystem.
“Sustainability / Energy”
Heat, Light, sound, movement and electricity
are types (forms) of energy. Students explore
how energy is created and used and how we can
sustain our energy needs.
• Modelled reading strategies in the classroom, e.g.:
visualising, connecting, locating and summarising.
• Exposure to a range of different texts in like-
ability literacy groups.
• Exploring texts about the world around us
including news reports and documentaries.

understandings of various environments and their
elements. They discover how flora and fauna are
interdependent.
Energy
Energy can be changed form one form to another.
Students explore the concept of energy in its various
forms, chemical, heat, light and movement.
In teams and individually, students investigate how
energy is used, created and sustained.
