Rajiv Mehrishi
Rajiv Mehrishi was on 31 August 2017 appointed as the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India. Mehrishi retired as Union Home Secretary on 30 August 2017.
Mehrishi will succeed incumbent Shashi Kant Sharma who will complete his tenure on 23 September 2017. Sharma assumed the o ce of CAG in May 2013.
Mehrishi is the rst Home Secretary who completed his two-year tenure after the NDA government came to power.
About Rajiv Mehrishi
Mehrishi is a 1978-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) o cer of Rajasthan cadre. He was appointed as Home Secretary in the year 2015. Before his appointment as home secretary, he served as the Finance Secretary. He also held the post of Chief Secretary of Rajasthan in December 2013. He has a degree in business administration from Strathclyde Business School, Glasgow. He also did BA (History) and MA (History) from the St Stephens College in Delhi.
Comptroller and Auditor General of India
The Comptroller and Auditor General is appointed for a term of six years or till the incumbent attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier. As a constitutional functionary, the CAG of India is primarily entrusted with the responsibility to audit the accounts of the union government and of the state governments of India. CAG reports are presented before the parliament and legislatures of the states.
