1 Overview
This document describes the configuration of FL COMSERVER 232/422/485 and the Com Port
Redirector software v4.3.
The firmware of the FL COMSERVER 232/422/485 must be version E2.20 or higher.
Actual firmware is available in the Download Center of Phoenix Contact.

2 Configuration of the FL COMSERVER 232/422/485

Please check the firmware version of the FL COMSERVER 232/422/485. You can open the web
based management with each internet browser. Enter the IP-address of the device in the URL-bar.
Navigate to Device Information General and check the running firmware.

The delivery status supports the com port redirector application. Following settings are required to
establish a TCP connection from the redirector to the FL COMSERVER 232/422/485.

3 Installation of the Com Port Redirector v4.3 under Windows 7

The com port redirector required the Microsoft .NET Framework v4.0 and supports following
operation systems:
64-bit Windows Systems: Windows 7, Vista, and 2008 Server
32-bit Windows Systems: Windows 2008 Server, Windows 7, Vista, 2003 Server and XP
The Microsoft .NET Framework v4.0 is integrated into the setup file and will be installed
automatically.
Launch the setup file and confirm the Windows UAC indication with Yes

The CPR installer starts and displays the required software packages. It depends on an already
installed Microsoft .NET Framework v4.0.

If the Microsoft .NET Framework v4.0 is already installed on the machine, the installer will continue
with the redirector installation (next page). Please agree to license terms to continue.

Complete the Microsoft .NET Framework v4.0 installation with Finish. The Com port redirector
installation will start.

Continue with Next and select, if required, an alternative installation path.

Launch the installation with Next and exit the routine with Close.

The Com Port Redirector was installed successfully.

4 Configuration Com Port Redirector

Run the CPR Manager from start menu group and confirm the Windows UAC indication with
Yes

The CPR Manager starts and displays the actual com port configuration.
Use the Add/Remove-button to create new virtual com ports on the system.

Select the new virtual com ports and confirm with OK.

New created com ports will be displayed in the main configuration overview and need to be
configured. Select the first new virtual com port. As long the settings are not saved, the description
information will be displayed in red.

Type in first the IP-address and TCP-port of the FL COMSERVER 232/422/485 and save the
configuration using the Save-button.

After you have saved the configuration, you can test the network connection to the
FL COMSERVER 232/422/485. Select the Com X Tests tab and establish a network
connection to the device by using the Open-button.

The Network Status will display the successful established network connection.

The configuration is finished and the virtual com ports can be used by the application software of
the system.

Please configure the serial port of the FL COMSERVER ... 232/422/485

in the web based management.
