Find a current story that interest you page reflection: Why is this story compelling to you? How
does it affect your personal livelihood?

This particular story is not in any headlines. It is circulating around my neighborhood

and on the neighborhood community app. One day my nephew was sneaking around the
Neighborhood Watch meeting and overheard new residents wanted to have a certain area of
our community surveilled. What was their reason? Because they think it attracts criminals.
But this is not what the people say who have been living there for 30 plus years. When word
got to us about the area that new residents are saying attracts criminals, we immediately felt
that they were trying to criminalized the youth in the neighborhood because these are the
same areas that we allow our children to play where we can watch them. It never was a
problem to us.

So, what it is, is the new white residents want changes made to suit their needs but they
dont communicate with the people who have lived there 10, 20 and 30 years prior to them
moving in. They just use certain laws to get things changed under our noses without regard for
the rest of the neighborhood. We sent a couple people in to protest the video surveillance and
it was stopped. We had to do something because the soccer park is now a dog park and no one
can play at the park anymore.
