GROUP LEARNING EXPERIENCE PLANNING SHEET

Student Name: Amanpreet Jassal Course Code: ECS 4070

Age Group: Kindergartens, 5 years old Date: October 3, 2017

Learning Experience: Learning the Alphabet

Programming Purpose: The children are learning how to write their alphabet. They trace the alphabet on paper
every day. I thought this activity will be a fun, hands-on way for the children to continue to practice how each
letters looks.

Objective:

Children will enhance communication, language and literacy development, specifically in letter recognition (3.11
in the elect document) as they begin to identify the letters in their name.
Children will strengthen physical development in fine motor skills (5.3 in the elect document) as they use the
circular handle and trace the letter.
Children will enhance cognition in describing and determining ordinal number and position (4.16 in the elect
document) as they talk about which letters come before or after another. For example, C comes before the letter K.

Materials:
26 wooden alphabet tracers labelled A-Z

Opening (Introduction): During Montessori time, I will alternate this activity between the 3 tables so everyone gets
a chance to play with the letter tracers.

Body (Content)

1. Model to the children how to use the letter tracers.

2. Ask the children questions such as What letter is this?
3. Use behavioral reflections. Yes Billy, that is the letter D. D stands for Dog
4. Allow the children to go through each letter.

Closing (Ending): Okay, it is time to clean up. What was your favorite part of tracing the letters? What did you learn?

Transition: Okay, time to get ready for lunch! Dont forget to go to Mrs. B for your hand sanitizer.
