DEFINITION The act of cleaning the hands by using running water and soap.

Eliminate the skin mechanically and reduce the number of


microorganisms in the palm of the hand.
AIM
Prevent and reduce the number of nosocomial infections from the
officer to the patient.
All personnel who are in direct contact with patients such as doctors,
nurses, midwives and other health workers (physiotherapists,
laboratory personnel, radiology officers, etc.)
All officers who are not in direct contact with the patient but in
contact with the patient's blood and body fluids (laboratory
personnel, Cleaning service personnel, sanitation personnel, laundry
linens, CSSD officers)
POLICY
All officers who contribute to the procedures performed on the
patient (pharmacist, nutrition officer, medical record officer,
ambulance officer)
Conducted at 5 moments (1. Before touching the patient 2. Before
performing any action or procedure 3. After contact with patient 4.
After touching the patient 5. After contact with the patient's
environment) with 6 steps of hand washing.
A. Tools
Flowing water, liquid soap, 1x towel or tissue.
B. Steps :
Remove all the jewelry (rings, bracelets, watches).
Damp hands with running water, take about 3 cc of liquid soap.
Wash hands with 6 definite steps (1. Rub your hands together and
flatten the soap in a circular motion 2. Scrub the backs of the

hands alternately, especially between the fingers 3. Rub the palms
together, especially between the fingers 4. Rub the link between
the backs of the hands 5. Rub the tips of the fingers rotate in the
palm of the hand alternately.
Rinse with running water.
Dry your hands with a single use towel or tissue.
Continue to wash hands with alcohol-based liquids (Hand Rub).
