Standard Sizes and Dimensions of Playing Floor

Since the Sports Complex aims to serve as a world standard sports complex
that would provide adequate facilities for sports enthusiasts and to host regional
and national events, it is only right to abide by the world standards with regards
to the dimensions of courts. Here are the standard dimensions of courts/ playing
fields.

Calculations

There are approximately 10,000 to 12,000 athletes participating in national and

regional events such as the Palarong Pambansa, and the CVIRAA. This said,
it is safe to assume that these numbers are the expected number of athletes
for such events in the future.

Determining the no. of spectators is crucial in designing the Sports Complex

Facility, this said, our calculation in determining the no. of spectators to be
accommodated are as follows:

Grand Stand

We assumed that there are approximately 12,000 athletes in national sporting

events. Also, according to our research, there are about 181 athletes for sports
in elementary division and 274 athletes for sports in the secondary division,
which totals to 455 athletes per side. To get the approximate number of
sides/congregations that participate, we simple divided the total no. of athletes
by the total no. of athletes per congregation (12,000/455) and got the answer
of approx. 27 congregations. However, in the 455 athletes, only 27 athletes are
for the athletics event, 12 for elementary division and 15 for secondary division.
These divisions are also not played simultaneously. Also, since the track and
field oval and the soccer field are incorporated in one area, it is safe to assume
that athletics and football matches are not held simultaneously. Therefore, to
derive the maximum numbers of athletes that are to participate in events in the
oval, we simply multiplied the approximate number of athletes for athletic
events and the approximate no. of congregations participating (15 x 27) and
derived the number of 405. With this figure, we assumed that the number of
attendees would be equal to the number of athletes multiplied by the average
household to accommodate their families, multiplied again by 2, to
accommodate other guests and spectators. This solution gave us the answer
of 3,564 spectators for the grand stand. (For equations, see calculation below.)

Given:

No. of Athletes/congregation = 455

No. of Athletes in Athletic Events Per congregation, per division = 15

Assumed total no of Athletes = 12,000

Average Filipino Household = 4.4 persons

No. of Congregations = 12,000/455

= 26.37

= 27

Total no. of Athletes in Athletic Events = No. of Congregations * No. of

Athletes in Athletic
Events/division/congregation

= 27 * 15

= 405

No. of Spectators = Average Filipino household * Total no. of Athletes in

Athletic Events * 2

= 4.4 * 405 * 2

= 8.8 * 405

= 3564 Minimum Capacity

Mixed-Use Games Hall

For the mixed-use games hall, calculations are somewhat the same. Of all the
games that can be accommodated in the games hall, the game that requires
the most no. of athletes would be basketball, which would consist of
approximately 12 athletes a side. Therefore, in any given time, there is a
maximum of 24 m athletes playing in an event. This said, the spectators to be
accommodated would be no. of athletes multiplied by the average household,
which is 4.4. This total to approximately 106 seats for the athletes families and
guardians. However, since the game basketball is one of the most popular
games in the Philippines, therefore, we assumed the multiplier to be 5, which
gives us the total of 528 spectators.

Total No. of athletes per game = 24

Spectators = Total no. of athletes per game * Average Filipino Household * 5

= 24 * 4.4 * 5

= 22 * 24

= 528 Minimum Capacity

Gymnastics Hall

For the Gymnastics Hall, we determined that although most likely the
gymnastics events will be held continuously, all the events will not be finished
in a day and the events will not be held simultaneously. This said, we
determined that the gymnastic event with the most number of athletes would
be the team event for artistic Gymnastics, which would require a team of 4
athletes to perform. Below are the final computation for gymnastics spectator
capacity:

Total No. of Gymnasts = No. of Congregations * Max No. of

Athletes/Congregation in an Event

= 27 * 4

= 108

Spectators = Total no. of Athletes per game * Average Filipino Household *

1.5

= 108 * 4.4 * 1.5

= 712.8 or 713 Min Capacity

Olympic Pool

For the Olympic Pool, we determined that although most likely the swimming
events will be held continuously, all the events will not be finished in a day and
the events will not be held simultaneously. This said, we determined that the
swimming event with the most number of athletes would be the freestyle or
medley relay, which would require a team of 4 athletes to perform. For the
Olympic Pool, the spectators accommodation calculation are as follows:

Total No. of Swimmers = No. of Congregations * Max No. of

Swimmers/Congregation in an Event

= 27 * 4

= 108

Spectators = Total no. of Swimmers * Average Filipino household * 1.5

= 108 * 4.4 * 1.5

=712.8 or 713 Min Capacity

Athletes Village

For the Athletes Village, since it is impossible to accommodate all the athletes
in the national events, we decided that the number of athletes to be
accommodated depend on the excess space of the chosen lot. Also, we
decided to divide the said accommodation equally between the 18 regions
participating in the Palarong Pambansa, which may possibly be the biggest
event that the proposed complex may host. Below are the calculations of the
approximate no. of athletes to be accommodated in the Athletes Village:

Given: AL = Lot Area = 41,080m2

Max. PSO = 60%

As = Total Spectators Area = 3,260m2 (See Further Calculations)

Ac = Total Court/Field Area (See Sizes and Dimensions of Courts)

Min. Space/person = 14m3/3 = 4.7m2

Calculations:

Athletes Village Area = (AL * PSO) As Ac

= (41,080 * 0.6) 3,260 (50*25) (52*27) (22*44)

1,500

= (41,080 * 0.6) 3,260 1,250 1,404 968 1,500

= 24,648 21,882

= 2,766m2

Athletes Accommodated = ((Athletes Villages Area / 19) / 4.7) * 18

= ((2,766 / 19) / 4.7) * 18

= (145 / 4.7) * 18

= 31 * 18

= 558 Athletes

Note: The area was divided by 19 since there are 18 regions participating, the
extra 1 division was to accommodate the auxiliary spaces.

Aside from the no. of spectators to be accommodated, other considerations for

designing includes the building limitations. Below are the computations
regarding the limitations:

Allowable TGFA = BHL * 65% of TLA

= 3 * (41,080.00 * 0.65)

= 133,510 m2

PSO = TLA * 60%

= 41,080.03 m * .6
= 24, 648.02 m2

MAX. ISA & MIN. USA = 41,080.03 m2 * 20%

= 8,216.00 m2

Grand Stand

Aisle Space = (Spectator Seating * 0.384m2) * 35/65

= (3,564 * 0.384) * 35/65

= 1,368.576 * 35/65

= 736.93m2

Occupant Load = Spectator Seating + Aisle Space / Unit Area per

= 3,564 + 736.93/0.65
