Lesson idea implementation:

The teacher will begin by giving students a lesson on prepositions- explaining that prepositions are words
that explain where something is located or what direction it is moving in. Prepositions are location words.
Then, the teacher will introduce the e-book I created- Where is Mr. Rabbit? The teacher will go through this
book with his/her students, and on each page where a new preposition is presented, will ask the students
how that word can be used in a sentence to describe the picture. E.g. If the word is in, then a possible

sentence might be, Mr. Rabbit is in the hat. Then, the teacher will explain to the students that the narrated
e-book is posted on our class blog, and that their homework is to go home and practice with it. This portion
of the lesson should take approximately 30-45 minutes. The following day, each student will be provided with
a piece of paper and a preposition word. They will be instructed to use that word in a sentence, I will help
them to write it down, and then they will draw a picture that represents the sentence they created. The
students will have 15-20 minutes to complete this portion of the activity. The teacher will copy their images
and turn it into a class preposition e-book- similar to Where is Mr. Rabbit? The following day, the teacher will
record each student saying the sentence they came up with. The final product will be a student-created and
narrated e-book that can be posted on the blog, shared with family and friends, and used to continue
practicing using prepositions. This final product will conclude the lesson. This (the recording) should take
about 45 minutes. Ideally, the educator should have a volunteer come in this day to either do or help with the
recording so that the teacher can continue to work with students in other areas.
Student learning will be assessed by the teacher observing and evaluating each students ability to form a
sentence using the preposition provided. The final project can be used to differentiate learning because after
assessing each students understanding and ability to use prepositions, I will print out copies of the practice
preposition books and add them to the assigned reading bags of students who need extra help in that area.
This way, during reading times or when they are finished with other work, these students will be able to pull
out the preposition practice books and practice. This lesson extends beyond Blooms Levels of Remembering
and understanding because it requires students to apply their knowledge of how to use prepositions and
create a sentence with the preposition provided. In addition, it extends to the Creating level because the
students make a final original project that puts their knowledge to use. The educator will provide feedback on
student work while they are creating their sentences to go in the class book, by prompting them to think
about the assignment differently, re-explaining what needs to be done, and/ or providing an example when
students seem to be misunderstanding or need assistance.
