Title of Lesson Injury Treatment and Prevention Approximate duration 35 Minutes

Overview of Lesson

The students will learn how to identify common injuries, treat the minor ones such as cuts and bruises, and learn that most injuries are
preventable through safety measures both in the classroom and outside of it.

Essential Question(s)

What injuries can the students identify from the start of the lesson? What is a preventable injury? What is the definition of an accident?
What steps can you take to make injuries less frequent in an in school and out of school setting?

Prior Knowledge Expected of Students

The students are expected to know what cuts, bruises, and minor injuries are, they must also know that they can ask for help at any time if
they are injured. If severely injured they must know to go to an adult for help. They are expected to know that activities can cause injuries
if not done correctly.

Student Outcomes

The students will be able to identify cuts and bruises well, and know how to treat minor cases of both. Then they will be able to know how
to prevent injuries while doing specific activities. Prevention methods such as wearing a helmet as a bike, following the rules during
organized sports, and knowing when to call an adult if an injury is serious.

Lesson Procedures

Time Step-by-Step Lesson Procedures with Embedded Coding
Questions
5 min Questions about what the students think a cut and a bruise is, then ask they what activities they
do outside of school for fun. Explain

20 min Discuss the differences between accidents and avoidable injuries, present examples with the
helmet. Present to the students injuries from severe to not so severe and ask how each can be
avoided. Conclusion of the information with injury question and answer cards for a game.
Students try to match the injury with wether or not it can be prevented.

10 min Ask the students questions about what theyve learned and ask assessment questions.

Relevance/Rationale

These outcomes help the students navigate the real world and help people that do not know safety procedures for activities. Sharing their
knowledge with others can help prevent injuries in more than just the children in the school. If the students understand the concept and
enjoy it they can pursue other fields in injury treatment and prevention in the future such as a doctor or an EMT.

Exploration, Extensions, and Supplemental

To add on to this lesson handing out a sheet of other websites to visit for more information to prevent injuries. For students that need extra
help in the classroom, working one on one with them going over the topic until it is comprehended well. For early finishers can help the
students that struggled with the topic or they can go through the topic with their peers that also finish early.

Assessment Criteria for Success

I will check for student understanding by asking questions during the lesson so the students can apply their knowledge. The activity with
the injury flashcards and asking the students if it was preventable or an accident also checks if the students have met the outcomes. A
successful process and outcome is if the students can use what they've learned to determine the outcomes of other injuries that may happen
int the real world.

Accommodations and Access for All

Post-Lesson Reflection

The lesson overall I think would be taught well structured like this lesson plan, adjustments would have to me made on the fly for the
different types of students in the class and which grade level it is exactly.
