It is necessary to punish children in order to teach them between right and

wrong. Agree? Disagree?

Children are often regarded as potential workforces of any nation, so the methods
parents and schools teach them are of importance nowadays. People have different
views about punishments with the aim of telling good things and bad things apart
for children to learn. While I agree that there are some certain punishments which
could improve childrens behavior, I firmly believe that these should not be
overused.

On the one hand, there are lots of ways to treat kids for their misdemeanors which
could positively shape their characteristics at early age. Firstly, parents could
withdraw some of their privileges such as watching cartoon and playing with toys
if children are disobedient or impolite to adults. Hence, children would learn to
become more and more dutiful. Additionally, at schools, teachers can make
children do some odd jobs such as rearranging the book shelves or cleaning the
classroom for talking in the lesson. This is likely to help them develop their self-
discipline contributing to their achievement in future studying and working
environment.

On the other hand, I personally believe that punishments should not be abused,
especially corporal ones which are often described as ways of controlling children
using fear and anger. Children suffering from these are not only threatened in terms
of their health but also obsessed with violent acts which might result in their
resentfulness and aggressive behavior. Also, physical punishments could erase trust
between adults and children. Once children do not believe in what parents or
teachers have said, they may easily be induced by other spoilt children. Therefore,
it could be the matter of time for them to commit offences.

In conclusion, it is true that punishments from adults would bring children several
valuable lessons, I still believe that some of them should be used sparingly,
particularly physical assault.
