The villainous Legacy of JL Nehru that will destroy India

Nehru was the first prime minister of India after independence. He was prime minister
even during the final phase of British rule and then continued to be the prime minister till
his death in 1964. He had absolute power having absolute majority in both the houses of
parliament and command over his cabinet colleagues. All his seniors like Gandhi and
Patel died and others were like Raja Ji and Prakasam, were shunted out of the party. All
were his juniors and he had no opponents who could challenge him.

His legacy is a mixed bag of good and bad. While the good was in the economic front,
the bad was aimed at the very foundations of the country’s existence.

There are four aspects in which he had done irreparable damage to the country. These
three will ultimately destruct the country and divide it into pieces.

The first was the Kashmir problem. When Pakistan invaded Kashmir by proxy, he could
have repulsed by force. Instead he approached the UN whose resolutions he did not
implement. Kashmir developed into a cancerous bone of contention between the two
countries and is the major cause of Islamic terrorism not only in India but all over the
world. This problem can be solved only through the division of the country.

The second problem was the introduction of universal franchise. Not even a developed
country like Switzerland had voting rights for women till the 1970s. Not many countries
had universal franchise in 1950! Giving voting rights to uneducated people who do not
know what the hell an election is about gave rise to corruption in the elections. So much
so, the elected people are not the best administrators or statesmen but corrupt self-seeking
politicians. These politicians went after amassing money. The impact can be gauged from
the fact that Swiss government announced (2010) that India stands at the top of the list of
countries holding MAXIMUM black money is its secret numbered bank accounts. The
corruption is so internalized that it can be solved only after the destruction of the country.

In his eagerness to show that India is keen to uplift the lot of backward communities of
people, he introduced reservations – certain percentage of government jobs and seats in
educational institutions to the identified communities. While he started this at 15% and
for only ten years, his successors increased this percentage to 50% and to perpetuity.
Certain states have reservations up to 70%! Now, in a PG medical admission, the top
ranked candidate could not be given the seat he wanted because it was reserved! Now
there is no place for merit in India. Now the legislatures are filled with people from
reserved communities and reservations cannot be reset. Merit can stage a comeback in
India if and only if the country is divided.

When Andhra people wanted a separate state because of the injustices meted out to them
in the Madras state, instead of addressing the issues, Nehru decided to divide the country
into states based on the language spoken by majority of the residents of an area. While
this looked good at the time, it has in fact polarized the people. It caused migration of
people into states that spoke their language. State governments are discouraging people
who spoke a different language. Now there are 25 countries waiting to raise their cry f
independence in India. It is not a question of “if” but “when” such a cry would be raised.
Already such murmurs are heard in the southern states and Punjab. It is only a question of
time when these murmurs would become deafening cry and UNO would step in.

All in all, the bad caused by the mis-rule of Nehru outweighs the good done by him. I
hope this would focus attention of concerned people to solutions to these cancerous
problem.
