Speed of a Reaction
ABSTRACT: In this laboratory experiment, three test tubes, each with 3 ml of sodium
thiosulfate (Na2S2O3) and 2 ml of hydrochloric acid (HCl) were placed as the first part
and the time taken to wait at different temperatures in reaction (appearance of cloudy
white color), whereby knowing the time and the number of moles of the sodium
thiosulphate can be estimated the speed of the reaction that must increase as the time
decreases.
In a similar manner, the reaction time was measured by taking advantage of the nature
of the reagents by placing samples in common with potassium permanganate (KMnO4)
and sulfuric acid (H2SO4) in three test tubes, with sodium oxalate (Na2C2O4) and the
other with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2).
In the same way as the first part, as time decreases the speed of the reaction increases.
Finally in the third part, different catalysts were used for the acceleration of the reaction
and thus to observe the behavior of the speed of the reaction as a function of time.
