Job Purpose: To be responsible for the day to day management and development of the school
premises and support team service.
To support the school in the implementation of the key priorities as detailed in the
School Development Plan.
Post Holder:
Pay Scale: Surrey Pay Range 25,000 to 32,000 (dependent upon skills and experience)
Accountable for: The efficient effective and safe operation of the schools Premises Support services.
Key accountabilities:
Key tasks:
Manage the Premises related compliance and response to inspections, audit reports an advisories
Ensure Health & Safety requirements are met, actively reporting and beinga ware of any outstanding
advisories and the plan for addressing these.
Utilise the expert support and advice provided by your appointed consultants
Develop a Health & Safety culture at the school, commencing with the premises team, promoting
individual responsibility to support your objectives.
Action H&S issues through the use of contractors or in-house expertise
Investigate and report on any H&S related incident that occurs recommend / undertake appropriate
actions and documenting steps taken
Provide reports to Governors and other meetings relating to H&S on-site together with records of any
near misses.
Compliment independent audits undertaken by assessing H&S needs during site inspections, always
considering preventative measures where possible.
Proactively maintain the school premises, using preventative maintenance where possible
Regularly inspect the school site to identify and prioritise maintenance. Concentrate on prevention
rather than cure, with the aim of securing long term solutions
Oversee the quality control of repairs / alterations / maintenance, ensuring that staff are utilized
effectively
In conjunction with the business manager manage and refine a rolling maintenance & assessment
programme, maintaining records of works undertaken to help inform future decision making.
As directed by the business manager obtain quotations, assess and recommend appropriate
suppliers and solutions for work
As directed by the business manager develop specific project costings for review and decision
making
Ensure the management of contractors on-site and their adherence to health & safety and site
regulations, including appropriate records of attendance on site, together with certification / evidence
of works undertaken.
Emergency situation response and secure area / premises as required and detailed within school
procedures
Manage or oversee all onsite project works, delegating responsibility as appropriate
Provide and present plans of holiday works well in advance of such periods by maintaining a detailed
rolling programme to the business manager and headteacher taking account of staff leave and
casual labour
Be first point of contact and manage public relations for the department
Use skills and understanding to repair and enhance the schools facilities
Vary hours of work within those stipulated in order to meet the expectations of the role.
Maintain effective and accurate records of site activity, testing and maintenance
Manage the periodic maintenance schedule, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements
Maintain appropriate records and certification to document works undertaken, including project
works and ongoing decoration
Review and act upon the reports of advisors/consultants/maintenance companies, providing updates
to the Business Manager for onward reporting to Governors.
Maintain and develop relationships with relevant staff and regulatory bodies
Keep in regular contact with key staff within and outside the school, such as the SLT, heads of
department, Surrey County Council, Babcock 4S and the schools building consultant. Utilise these
relationships and advice to undertake the duties more effectively
Provide information to staff and the general public regarding premises developments
Develop relationships with other premises organisations, such as hospitals and other schools to
share best practice, contacts and ideas

Attend scheduled department and school staff meetings
Participate in the Appraisal review process ensuring that the Appraisal review cycle is completed
annually by the set deadline
Take responsibility for own professional development, setting objectives for improvements
Personally keep up to date with developments, changes in legislation and new ideas related to your
role and share these where appropriate with department colleagues
Maintain a personal development portfolio of evidence to support the Appraisal review process
Participate in and plan for the In-Service training programme days organised by the school and other
relevant bodies if relevant including whole school events such as Open Evening.
Participate in activities to promote liaison with other schools and agencies
Play a full part in the life of the school community at The Winston Churchill School, support our vision
and values and encourage staff and students to follow this example
Main duties and responsibilities are indicated above. Other duties of an appropriate level and nature
may also be required
