PrideStrong Field Guide

A little time. A big impact.

A message from our founder,
Derek BigCatDerek Krahn

Thank you SO much for going out and trying to make an
impact for animals in your community! Use this handy guide
to help you keep track of what you did while volunteering
pounds of food fed, number of animals aided, size of area
cleaned, number of dolla-dollas raisedall that stuff. Try to
be as accurate as you can, but dont make yourself nutty by
counting all the individual pieces of kibble you fed or
something like that I mean, unless thats your thing. If
thats the case, then knock yourself out.

Happy volunteering and try not to get poop on your hands!

Derek

Finding an Ethical Organization
The Society of Animal Welfare Administrators (SAWA) is an organization that promotes the humane treatment and responsible
stewardship of animals in need. This team has created a checklist for determining if an organization is ethical in its practices, which
includes:

Honesty - Does this organization communicate consistently, truthfully, and with integrity both internally and externally? Do
they take responsibility for their actions and provide accurate information on organization procedures?
Respect - Does this organization treat all living creature with respect? Does this organization promote an open environment
and accept input from stakeholders and the community?
Responsibility - Does this organization follow all applicable laws and guidelines? Do they treat animals in a humane way and
constantly pursue excellence in their endeavor?
Be Fair and Just - Does this organization use good judgement and recognize personal biases?
Caring and Compassion - Does this organization strive to provide the best for the animals and people it cares for?
Citizenship - Does this organization have positive and collaborative relationships with other agencies?

When looking for volunteering opportunities in your community, please use your best judgment to decide if the organization is
ethical and humane. If you'd like to see the checklist in its entirety, visit sawanetwork.org/code-of-ethics.html
