New Drum Mode in Saturator Effect

2 New in BATTERY 3.2

2.1 New Drum Mode in Saturator Effect

Battery 3.2 features an all new Saturator algorithm, which was designed for usage with

drum sounds. This new mode is especially useful on acoustic drums, but provides a gener
ally louder and thicker sound on all kind of drums and samples. To activate the Saturator
effect's Drum mode:
Click the D button left to the Saturator Effect knob.

Fig. 2.1 New Drum Mode on Saturator Effect

Please note that the new Drum mode in the Saturator effect is turned on per default if you
create a new Kit. When loading a Kit created with an earlier version of Battery, the Drum
mode will appear turned of to ensure your Kits sound the way you left them.

2.2 New Default Kit Option

Starting with Battery 3.2, you're now able to define numerous Default Kit settings. This is

done by using the new Default Kit options menu.

You can load your preferred MIDI assignment, Cell names, Cell matrix size etc. automati
cally on start-up. To configure the default settings for a Kit, do the following:
1. Create or load a Kit with your preferred parameter settings (e.g., key ranges, automa
tion assignments etc.).
2. From the File menu, select the Options entry.
3. Locate the Default Kit section in the option pages' lower-left corner.

4. From the Default Kit options menu drop-down (labeled Set), select the Save Current con
tent as Default Kit without Samples entry.

Fig. 2.2 'Default Kit' Option in Options Page

Please note that the default Kit's parameter set loaded on start-up never contains any Sam
ples. In case you decide to set a Kit with Samples as Default Kit, all parameter settings will
be saved as Default Kit, but not the Sample mappings.

After having set up a default Kit, a new entry Reset Default Kit appears in the Default Kit op
tions menu. To reset a saved Default Kit parameters:
Select Reset Default Kit in the Default Kit options menu.
To overwrite an existing default Kit with the currently loaded Kit:
Select Save Current content as Default Kit without Samples.
If you have set a default Kit, but want to revert to the factory settings for your current ses
sion, do the following:
1. Go to the File menu.
2. Select Reset Current Kit.
Please note that the Master Volume setting for the BATTERY stand-alone version is saved in
dependently from a BATTERY Kit. When using BATTERY in stand-alone mode, BATTERY al
ways recalls with the Master Volume setting used in the last stand-alone session, independ
ently from a certain Kit's settings.

2.3 Zero-Latency Convolution

BATTERY 3.2 provides a new, improved Convolution effect algorithm, optimized for low-

latency usage. It features a new latency-free setting for 100% sample accurate timing. To
set BATTERY's Convolution effect to the new latency-free setting, do the following:
1. From the File menu, select the Options entry.
2. Locate the Convolution Latency section in the option page, click on the drop-down menu.
3. Select 0.0 ms for latency-free operation, or any other latency setting of your choice.

Miscellaneous improvements

Fig. 2.3 New Zero-Latency setting for Convolution Effect

Installing the BATTERY 3.2 update won't change your existing Convolution latency setting.
Keep in mind that changing this setting could potentially cause slight changes in timing of
tracks in existing projects if the BATTERY Convolution effect was used in these tracks.
Note that although the new Convolution Effect algorithm has especially been designed and op
timized for low- and Zero-latency usage, a higher latency setting generally provides a better
performance in regards to CPU usage. If you experience drop-outs or crackles when using the
Convolution effect on very low latency settings, try a higher latency value.

2.4 Miscellaneous improvements

2.4.1 New Import Formats

The following import formats are now supported in BATTERY 3.2:

Akai MPC 5000

Alesis Fusion
Drumagog
Korg Triton
Roland Fantom
Yamaha Motif

2.4.2 Numerical Parameter Input

The parameter values for as good as all elements on the BATTERY3 user interface can

now be entered from your computer keyboard. To enter a parameter numerically:

Click the value field next to the knob and enter the desired numeric value with your
keyboard.

New in BATTERY 3.1
New Vintage Sound MP-60 and S-1200 Emulation Modes

3 New in BATTERY 3.1

3.1 New Vintage Sound MP-60 and S-1200 Emulation Modes

BATTERY 3.1 features new Vintage Interpolation modes, which emulate the sonic charac

teristics of two legendary Samplers often used in Hip-Hop and electronic music. To enable
the Vintage Interpolation mode:
1. Click the Vintage button in the new Interpolation mode section on the Cell Page.

2. Choose the emulation model from the drop-down menu below. Note that this drop-
down menu changes its functionality when you switch between Standard and Vintage In
terpolation mode.
Please note that DFD is not available in Cells that use Vintage Interpolation mode. If you
switch a Cell that uses DFD (in Standard Interpolation mode) to Vintage Interpolation mode,
all samples loaded in this cell are loaded into RAM, DFD is deactivated.

With Vintage Interpolation mode active, you can choose between different emulation in
this menu. Youll find five entries for the S-1200 mode, all featuring a different output
filter setting (from low to high, or off/on), and one entry for the MP-60 mode.
All Vintage Interpolation mode settings can be set individually for each cell. Keep in mind
that its required to have a cell switched to Sampler mode if you want to use Vintage Inter
polation mode, Stretch and Beat mode are not supported.

3.2 MIDI Learn on Right-click/[Ctrl]-click

BATTERY 3.1 features an improved MIDI Learn function for all sliders and knobs. Once

you have assigned one of BATTERYs controls to a knob or fader on your MIDI controller
device, you can conveniently access the corresponding parameter in BATTERY.

BATTERY 3 - Manual Addendum - 10

3.2.1 Assigning MIDI Controllers

To assign any of BATTERYs sliders or knobs to a certain MIDI controller:

1. Right-click the knob or slider you want to assign a MIDI controller to.
2. Select Learn MIDI CC# Automation.
3. Turn the knob or move the slider on your MIDI hardware controller. The control should
pick up the movement instantly. You can add additional MIDI controllers (CC#s) to the
same BATTERY knob. You can also assign multiple knobs or sliders to the same MIDI
controller.
Not all controls on BATTERYs user interface are automatable. Correspondingly you cannot
MIDI Learn all controls. If youre trying to MIDI Learn a non-automatable control via right-
click, the message This control is not automatable! is displayed.

Please refer to the BATTERY 3 manual for detailed information on BATTERYs Automation
Page.

3.2.2 Removing MIDI Controller Assignments

To remove an assignment made to a specific controller:

1. In BATTERY, open the Automation Page by clicking the referring entry in the View
menu.
2. Press the x sign in the appropriate list-entry. The assigned parameters are deleted be
ginning with the parameter you added lastly.
Please refer to the BATTERY 3 manual for detailed information on BATTERYs Automation
Page.

3.3 Multiprocessor Support

BATTERY 3.1 can make use of multiple CPUs or dual-core processors. To switch multi

processor support on and off, select the corresponding new entry from the Options menu.
Multiprocessor settings can be set independently for VST, AU, RTAS and stand-alone ver
sions.

BATTERY 3 - Manual Addendum - 11

New in BATTERY 3.1
New Option: Loading Behavior on Double-Click

When running BATTERY as a plug-in, multi-processor mode can sometimes cause crackles
and drop-outs. Whether or not these noises occur during playback, strongly depends on
your individual software and hardware setup. Therefore, the only option is to test which
multi-processor setting works best when using the BATTERY plug-in.
For stand-alone usage, we generally recommend turning multi-processor support on.

3.4 New Option: Loading Behavior on Double-Click

BATTERY 3.1 enables you to define the loading behavior when double-clicking on a loada

ble file in the BATTERY Browser View Tab. To select the Double-Click loading behavior:
1. Open BATTERYs Options menu.
2. Locate the entry Double-click loading behavior.
3. Choose a setting that fits your personal workflow best.
The following settings are available:
Add sample: Adds a sample to the currently selected cell. This is the standard behavior
and equals the behavior of previous BATTERY 3.0.x versions.
Replace sample: Replaces loaded sample(s) in the currently selected cell. If only one
sample is loaded in the currently selected cell, this sample is replaced immediately af
ter double-clicking. If more than one sample is currently loaded into the selected cell,
a dialog is brought up in which you can select whether you want to:
a) Replace all currently loaded samples in the selected cell (click Yes).
b) Add the sample to the selected cell (click No).
c) Abort loading (click Abort).
Use the Replace sample setting if you want to quickly exchange samples in cells while
browsing in the Browser View tab.
Deactivate loading: Loading on double-clicking in the Browser View tab is deactivated.
This is useful for previewing samples in the Browser View tab by clicking on them with
out accidentally loading them.

3.5 Improved Samples Missing Dialog

The Samples Missing dialog now has a new option called Forward.

BATTERY 3 - Manual Addendum - 12

New in BATTERY 3.1
Miscellaneous Changes

When this option is activated, the selected search folders of the current Samples Missing
dialog are handed over to any cascading or following dialogs. This is especially useful if
numerous BATTERY Kits or a host project have been moved to a different folder, normally
resulting in multiple Samples Missing dialogs. Since BATTERY 3.1 you only have to speci
fy the new search folder in the initial Samples Missing dialog, and all following Samples
missing dialogs will automatically start searching in the same place.
Note that, if a sample is not found in the given location, a new Samples Missing dialog will
appear.

This behavior is especially useful if a host project that contains multiple BATTERY instan
ces has been moved to a different folder. When recalling the host project and the first
BATTERY instance searches for missing samples, the selection is handed over to all other
BATTERY instances as well.

3.6 Miscellaneous Changes

3.6.1 Renamed Load multiple Samples into one cell Option

The option Load multiple Samples into one cell was renamed to Map multiple samples in one cell on load.

There are no changes in functionality: This option allows you to define how BATTERY
should map multiple samples that are loaded in one go.
With this option turned on, multiple samples you try to load in one go will be loaded
and mapped into one cell.
Turn this option off, and BATTERY will load all those samples in individual cells.
Note that this all only refers to cases when you are trying to load more than one sample at
once.

New in BATTERY 3.1
Miscellaneous Changes

3.6.2 Step-by-step Undo in Wave Editor Instead of Reverting to Original Sample

Since BATTERY version 3.0.5, the Wave Editors Undo functionality has been improved:

Instead of reverting back to the original audio file by clicking the Original button, you can
now perform a step-by-step undo by clicking the Undo button (that was formerly labeled
Original).
