Dear Sir
As per the revised syllabus of Shivaji University Kolhapur, above mentioned subject is included
as core subject for Final Year Electrical Engineering branch from 2010-2011. The Department of
Electrical Engineering at our institute has developed Six laboratory experiments as per the
guidelines given in revised syllabus. The list of these experiments with brief synopsis is
enclosed for your reference. The Department of Electrical Engineering at your institute can take
the advantage of this facility at reasonable charge.
As this course is recently introduced, many institutions offering Electrical Engineering program
does not have this facility to conduct laboratory experiments.
In case, your institute is willing to avail this facility, the concerned faculty at your institute can
contact Mr. H. T. Jadhav (9970700750) of our institute for further details.
Thanking you,
Principal
The hardware experiments use a squirrel cage induction generator with a DC motor as
the prime mover. The DC motor is adjusted to drive the IM at super-synchronous
speeds. Power Analyzer is used to read the active power generated, reactive power
taken by Induction Machine and also to observe motoring as well as generating mode.
This experiment focuses on the study of reactive power consumption of the induction
generators, and the need for power factor correction capacitors. Using Power Analyzer
Students record the reactive power drawn from the grid with and without capacitors at
the generator terminals. The experiment also helps students to learn to design capacitor
bank for operation of machine in self excited mode.
3) To Study Wound Rotor Induction Generator using rotor resistance control (Opti-Slip)
Today the most common variable speed wind turbines use doubly-fed induction
generators (DFIGs), with a typical configuration. The power electronics and control
systems required for a DFIG are too complex for the hardware laboratory system, but
can be simulated. This laboratory experiment illustrates how the d and q components of
the rotor current affect the P and Q components of the complex power.
