correlation measures. Basic probability concepts, random variables, probability density and
mass functions. Hypothesis testing, confidence intervals. Law of large numbers and central limit
theorem. Regression analysis. Applications in engineering.

Textbook: Applied Statistics and Probability for Engineers. D.C. Montgomery and G.C.
Runger. John Wiley & Sons, 2011, 5th ed.

Schedule (Section 1): Monday: 13:40-15:30, MM125, Thursday: 14:40-15:30, MM125

Exams and Grading Policy:

MDT I: 25 %, MDT II: 25%, Final: 35%, Quizzes 10%, Attendance: 5%,
All materials will be closed during exams. Relevant Statistical Tables and formula sheet will be
distributed during the exam when needed.
Students should take their exams and quizzes in their sections. There will be no make-up exam
for the quizzes. If you miss a quiz, you will get zero.
Scientific calculators should be brought to the classroom for class activities.
Make up Exam can be given after the final exams. It will be given only to those qualifying
students with a valid excuse (Please see academic rules and regulations). A student can take
only one make up exam. Valid excuse should be given to the instructor within one week of the
exam. Only one make up exam can be taken by the student. It will cover all of the topics covered
during the semester.
