Purpose:
The purpose of this learning experience is to give the children an opportunity to use their
senses and explore the different textures they could feel with their hand with all the
different sized foam sea creatures and different sized cups and funnels
Observation Sample:
Last week, I noticed Child B exploring the different sensory material she was provided
with at the sand box. As I noticed her, I observed that she was trying to make chocolate
cake and cupcakes with her peer. As she was doing this, I went by her side to interact
with her more and to gain some knowledge if she really liked to use the sensory materials
that have different textures in the sandbox and make cakes. As I asked her this, she
replied saying that she really loved playing in the sand box with the different materials
provided to her and making sand cakes with her peers. As she said this, it made me
realize that Child B and her peers enjoy playing in the sand with different materials,
which gave me an idea for my next activity which was providing the children different
textured materials but instead of playing in the sand, they would be provided with a
water table that have so many different textured sea creatures and different sized cups
and funnels.

Learning Experience: Sensory Sea creature hunt in water bins with cups and funnels
I am going to organize this learning experience at the water play area with 2 different big
sized bins filled with water, different colored/textured sea creatures, different sized cups
and funnels. With this experience children are engaged in learning colors, different sea
creatures, different textures, the amount of water they could pour into each cup and they
are able to explore what happens to the water when it is poured down the funnel.
Objectives:
1. The children will further develop 5.3 Fine motor skills from the Physical Domain
as they have the opportunity to use their hands to feel the different textured sea
creatures and pour water into the funnels with the cups.
2. The children will also further develop 3.5 Using Descriptive Language to
Explain, Explore and Extend skills from the Communication, Language and
Literacy Domain as they have the opportunity to use sentences to describe what
they are doing with the objects that are provided to them like the sea creatures,
different sized cups and funnels.
3. The children will also further develop 1.6 Cooperating skills from the Social
Domain as they have the opportunity to exchange materials within their peers
without any conflicts
Materials:
2 medium sized rectangular bins
Varieties of different sea creatures with different colors and different textures
Different sized cups and funnels
Implementation:
1. I will set up this activity in the water play area
2. I will provide the children with smocks when they approach to play my activity
3. I will show the children how they could explore the water bins filled with the
cups, funnels and the different textured foam sea creatures
4. Throughout this activity, I will have some communication with the children and
talk about how some of the different textured sea creatures feel and how the water
feels while they pour it through the funnels and cups.
Teaching Strategies:

Modeling:
As the children approach to play my activity, I will show the children how they could use
the cups, fill them with water and pour it through the funnel and how they could feel the
different textured foam sea creatures with their hands.

Sensory Engagement:
Throughout the activity, the children will have the opportunity to gain their first hand
experiences as they use their hands to feel the different textured sea creatures and
discover a lot of activities they could do with the cups and funnel. Throughout this
activity, children will be fully engaged by using their senses and developing sensory
skills.
