1. Students will use colored chips to show grouping for sets of.
2. Students will discover the quotient is double the factor being
multiplied by 2.
Colored Chips - 25 for each student
Overhead Projector
Pencil and Paper
Crayons and Markers
1. Teacher will ask students to think of examples that come in sets
of two. (eyes, feet, hands, bike tires, shoes, etc.)
2. Make a list of all the items that students come up with.
3. Individual bags of colored chips will be passed to each student.
4. Teacher will write a problem on the board, and then students
will demonstrate the problem using their sets of colored chips.
5. Teacher will walk around to check on students answers and
correct any mistakes.
6. Teacher will ask students to come up to the board to show how
they solved each problem.
7. Students will begin to notice the pattern that the quotient is
doubled the factor multiplied by 2.

1. Have students use an iPad app that allows them to color
multiplication pictures.
2. There are 2 pictures - 1 slightly more difficult than the other.
3. Each picture will be given to the student based on their
performance and ability, and will continue to get more difficult
as the student progresses in their multiplication ability.
1. Students are asked to complete a picture puzzle sheet in the
color after figuring the solution for equations to help them
know what colors to use to solve it.
2. Puzzle is similar to a crossword.
