Programming software for PANASONIC KX-TD1232/816/308 PBX

This program was developed to simplify parameter editing of the popular

KX-TD1232, KX-TD816 or KX-TD308 PANASONIC super hybrid PBX (KSU).

Important! This program is not capable of setting the parameters of other PBX models from
Panasonic
like KX-T123210/11 or KX-TA308/616/624 PBX. If you have such a
system, please check out our other programs.

Using this program you'll no longer have to use the cryptic command number
system (entered on the phone from extension 101) to set your PBX parameters.
This will make configuring your PBX much easier in other ways as well, like
being able to use a real keyboard to enter extension names. All parameters
are grouped in a logical manner according to the function, not based on the
cryptic command number sequence in the KX-TD1232 user manual. Another
important feature is that you can now back up your PBX configuration to your
computer. A true lifesaver if your PBX has some type of failure causing it
to lose programming or if you ever have to replace your system with another
KX-TD1232. Since you can save your parameters to your computer, you can
also work on the configuration anywhere that you can bring your computer.
When you're ready to implement the changes, simply go to your phone room,
connect your computer to the KX-TD1232 and dump the new configuration to
the system.

To use this program, you'll need a PC-compatible computer running either

Windows 3.1, 3.11 or Windows 95/NT. To connect your computer to the PBX,
you'll also need a special connection cable (see pin assignments below).
Important! The cable used to connect the PBX to your computer differs from
common 'modem' cables used to connect modems to computers. The software will
not work without the correct cable. The correct cable is basically a
'null-modem' cable, but be careful - there are a few different null-modem
schemes and most will not work with the KX-TD1232. It is highly recommended
that you use the cable described below. The two connectors used to make the
cable are available from Radio Shack or just about any decent electronics
store. If you lack the skill to make your own cable, any electronic service
store should be able to make one for you for a fee.

To install the program, run Install_TD.exe. You can then select a subdirectory
where the package will be installed (default is C:\KXTD1232). The program
itself can be launched under Win 3.1 - see below. After successfully
installing the program, double-click the phone icon (located in the KXTD1232
folder) to launch the program. Be sure that you have valid parameters in the
COM option of the Settings menu. Connect to the PBX by clicking the
'Connect' button. You should now be able to ascertain the PBX status by
clicking the 'read speed' button on the toolbar of the program.

The difference between this read-only version and the full-featured version
is that this version can only read and view current PBX settings. While you
can edit and save settings to disk, you will not be able to upload your
changes back to the PBX. You can, however, change the time and date of the
built-in PBX clock. The main purpose of the read-only version is that it
allows you to test for program functionality and compatibility with your
PBX. If you find the program useful, you can buy the full-featured version
which is write-enabled. See file HOWTOBUY.DOC for more details.

2. Troubleshooting:

The most common reason for connection failure is usually due to either using
the wrong cable, a problem with the cable or the cable was not correctly
made. There are a few different ways for pin assignments to be configured
for a null-modem cable, but you absolutely must use the pin assignments
outlined above. Recheck your work - this is the most common reason people
have trouble with the software.

The second most common reason for a connection failure is improper port
settings for the PC and PBX. Both must be configured identically. There is a
good way to test for proper communication, that covers the PC, cable and
PBX. The test is to receive call logs from the PBX. To run this test:

a) Connect the PBX to the PC with the cable described above.

b) Run any terminal program (for example, Terminal.Exe from Win3.1,
HyperTerm from Win95, TELIX, PROCOM, etc.) Configure it for the simplest
terminal mode - TTY. Set the COM-port parameters of the port so they are the
same as the ones for the PBX.
c) Make a few calls through your PBX - after a short delay you will see
entries appear on the terminal screen describing your call. You'll see the
number you dialed as well as the extension number from which you made the
call.
d) If you still don't see any log information, try pressing Ctrl+Q. If you
still don't receive anything, check the hardware. There is probably a
problem somewhere inside the cable.

Third - check password used to access programming

interface of the PBX. Program uses '1234' string by default -
look the dialog Settings->System of the main program menu to change it.

3. Installation Problems
The actual Programmator program can be used under Win 3.1, but Install_TD.exe
only works properly under Win95/NT. A workaround to this dilemma is to
temporarily install it on a Win95 or NT machine and then:

a) Copy the PROG.EXE and PROG.HLP files to the computer running Win 3.1.
c) Manualy install the font HELVECYR.FON - it is unpacked by Install_TD.exe into
the subdirectory WINDOWS\FONTS.

If this is still a problem, just send me email and I'll send you a zip file
that contains the installed components.
