Unit: Physics and PBL Hydraulics

Macro learning intention: We are learning about forces and simple machines by identifying representing and predicting the effects of forces on the motion of
objects; and how simple machines are used for mechanical advantage in order to make decisions and design, produce and evaluate a hydraulic machine to suit a
purpose and audience.

Unit Outline Dim2: Declarative Knowledge (DK) Dim2: Procedural Knowledge (PK)

We are learning to definition of forces drawing force diagrams

Identify forces between objects types of forces measuring forces using Newtons
Recognise different simple machines contact and non-contact forces calculating mechanical advantage
friction application of project management
Represent forces using force diagrams gravity skills
Calculate mechanical advantage types of simple machines (wedges, levers, inclined plane, wheel using hydraulics
Predict the effects of forces on motion and axle, pulley, screws)

Core CCEs Dim3: Extend & Refine Dim4: Use Knowledge Meaningfully

National Curriculum Content Descriptions

Science Understanding
Physical Sciences- Change to an objects motion is caused by unbalanced forces, including Earths gravitational attraction, acting on the object (ACSSU117)
Science as a Human Endeavour
Use and Influence of Science - Solutions to contemporary issues that are found using science and technology, may impact on other areas of society and may involve ethical
considerations (ACSHE120)
Science Inquiry Skills
Questioning and Predicting - Identify questions and problems that can be investigated scientifically and make predictions based on scientific knowledge (ACSIS124)
Planning and Conducting - Collaboratively and individually plan and conduct a range of investigation types, including fieldwork and experiments, ensuring safety and ethical guidelines
are followed (ACSIS125)
Processing and Analysing data and information - Summarise data, from students own investigations and secondary sources, and use scientific understanding to identify relationships
and draw conclusions based on evidence (ACSIS130)
Evaluating - Reflect on scientific investigations including evaluating the quality of the data collected, and identifying improvements (ACSIS131)
Communicating - Communicate ideas, findings and evidence based solutions to problems using scientific language, and representations, using digital technologies as appropriate
(ACSIS133)
