1.

For the 6m (center-center span) beam below, determine the shear and bending moment
diagrams given the superimposed service loads. Design for shear and flexure the whole length
of the beam. Draw the complete flexural reinforcements and shear reinforcements showing
number of longitudinal bars and spacing of rebars. Consider ALL relevant design
considerations including, but not limited to, strains, stresses, spacings etc. Cut as section and
draw the section at 100 mm from faces of each support and at the midspan. Use a 300 x 500
beam. Support dimension is 400x600mm. If inadequate, increase the height of the beam by
50mm increments.

Pdl = 20 kN, Pll = 30 kN

wdl = 20 kN/m, wll = 30 kN/m

2. For a one-way simply supported slab with a c-c span length of 2.5m, width of 3m, design the
slab and draw the section along the span and across the midspan. Provide temperature
reinforcements where needed. Use slab thickness of 120mm. Superimposed service loads are
6 kPa (DEAD) and 5 kPa (LIVE).

3. For the isolated t-beam below, analyze and determine the design capacity, Mu, of the section.
As = 4-25mm dia. Beam : 300x500mm, slab thickness = 175mm

4. For a 400x400mm column with total reinforcements of 4-25mm , what is its axial capacity,
Pnmax for a purely axially-loaded condition? What is the P-M capacity and eccentricity at
balanced condition?

For all problems:

fc = 35 MPa, fy = 414 MPa, fyt = 275 MPa

db = 25 mm (beam and column), db = 12mm (slab) ds (stirrups or ties) = 12mm
