On-the-job training (OJT) is necessary because it has an important role to prepare students for

vocational tourism, to provide orientation and benefits as well as motivate students to enter the workforce.
This study was designed to evaluate the role of OJT in improving knowledge of vocational high-school
students in Indonesia. Respondents of this study were 300 students from five schools that are implementing
the OJT. In assessing students' knowledge, this study was built instrument through a survey approach. The
study found that the knowledge of "common core hospitality" on the package of expertise Restaurant Service
before OJT is moderate category, and after OJT it is high category. Test results using a difference one-way
ANOVA showed a significant difference before and after the OJT according to the three categories of the
training period that are two months, four months and six months. Analysis shows that the periods of two and
four months as well as two and six months are a factor that has the same effect on the level of knowledge.
The results of ANOVA and Bonferroni test for these categories showed a significant difference. The results
showed that the role of OJT for tourism vocational students give positive results and impact.
