Lesson Plan
For
Elementary Students

Objective : Encourage students to hear the connection between music and telling a story.

We will intersperse each performance with excerpts from each piece & activities to promote student
participation and discussion on the listed topics.

Suggested activities include:

- Discussion of different cultures and ability to hear these differences in music
- Displaying images that inspired the composers to write pieces we are performing
- Using movement to demonstrate musical contours
- Recognition of musical motifs
- Drawing/writing the stories heard by the students in the music
