WEEKLY JOURNAL

WEEK 4 (22nd FEBRUARY 2015-26th FEBRUARY 2015)

1. PROBLEMS

This week only consists of three schooling days because we were having two days of school
holiday due to Chinese New Year school break. On Tuesday, I taught grammar lesson to the
pupils. One of the problems that I faced was the pupils were a bit slow in understanding the
possessive pronouns because I did not tell them they were learning possessive pronouns at that
time. That was why some of the pupils were not able to understand the lesson well. I only used
one picture for one possessive pronouns, causing the pupils to not be able to see the similarity
of the possessive pronouns usage. The other problem that I faced during this week was the
management of time for the implementation of the lesson plan. The lesson finished like 10
minutes earlier than I thought. Possibly it was because my story was a bit too short for the pupils
with high level ability. My mentor said that I perhaps should lower down the level of storytelling
when telling a story to the pupils. The way I presented the story was more to present a story to
adults. Besides, I should add bombastic vocabulary in the story and explained it to the pupils.

2. ANALYSIS

To enable the pupils to understand about the lesson, sometimes the more the teacher shows
examples to the pupils, the more they could understand. The choice of taking the pupils
properties to be made into examples worked really well as the pupils could understand when we
used things around them or things that belonged to them. Checking the pupils level of
comprehension was good enough before planning a lesson that is suitable for them to ensure
that the lesson fits them very well. If the story was a bit short, we could always modify it by
using more adjectives or use high level of vocabulary words. The approach that is used in the
class must be suitable with children because if it was not suitable, it could lead the lesson to
become boring and the pupils were too serious listening to you telling a story.
3. SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT

I should provide more pictures for one possessive pronouns that I taught because it enables
them to see clearly of the way to use possessive pronouns. I should call the pupils in front of the
class and let them say the sentence by themselves. For storytelling session, I should add more
actions than explanations during the sessions because this would bring element of humour and
the pupils would not get bored or they did not be too serious in listening to the story.

4. ALLOCATED TIME TO SOLVE PROBLEMS

I will try to prevent these things from happening again next time I teach the class. However,
I need time to flashback the grammar knowledge that I have learnt and the correct and
appropriate way to teach grammar.

5. SUCCESS EVALUATION

My lesson would be successful if the objectives of the lesson for that day is well achieved. To
indicate this, the pupils progress in class should be observed all the time.

6. FURTHER ACTION

Extra readings regarding the lesson that I planned is a good action as teachers need to know
better than pupils so they can explain things they are going to teach really well.
