Important Amendment in constitution of india for any Exam.

1st Amendment, 1951 :- Added special provision for


the advancement of any socially and educationally backward classes or for the
SC &ST., Schedule 9 introduced to protect laws that are contrary to the
Constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights.
7th Amendment, 1956 :- Reorganisation of states on linguistic lines and
introduction of Union Territories. (14 states & 6 UTs)

21st Amendment, 1967 :-Included Sindhi as an Official Language. (At the time
of implementation of Constitution, there were 14 languages in 8th Schedule ).
14+1 = 15

36th Amendment, 1975 :-Formation of Sikkim as a State within the Indian


Union
39th Amendment, 1975 :-Amendment designed to negate the judgement of
Allahabad High Court invalidating Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's election to
parliament.

42nd Amendment, 1976 :-Amendment passed during internal emergency by


Indira Gandhi. Provides for curtailment of fundamental rights, imposes
fundamental duties, 3 words viz. Socialist, Secular and integrity were added in

44th Amendment, 1978 :-Right to property was made a legal right from
Fundamental Right . Internal disturbance was replaced by Armed Rebellion
for imposing national emergency in the country under Article 352. It was during
then PM Shri. Moraji Desai (v.imp)

52nd Amendment, 1951 :-Anti-Defection Law - Provide disqualification of


members from parliament and assembly in case of defection from one party to
other. It is mentioned in 10th Schedule of the Constitution. It was during then
PM Shri. Rajiv Gandhi (v.imp)

61st Amendment, 1989 :-Reduce age for voting rights from 21 to 18.It was
during then PM Shri. Rajiv Gandhi (v.imp)

69th Amendment, 1992 :-To provide for a legislative assembly and council of
ministers for NCT of Delhi. However, Delhi continues to be a Union Territory.

71st Amendment, 1992 :-Include Konkani, Manipuri and Nepali as Official


Languages. (15+3 = 18).
86th Amendment, 2002 :-Provides Right to Education until the age of fourteen
and Early childhood care until the age of six. (It was effective from 1.04.2010
while Right to Education Act,2009 implemented.)

91st Amendment, 2004 :-Restrict the size of Council of Ministers to 15% of


legislative members including PM in Centre and the CM in States & to
strengthen Anti Defection laws. (v. imp)

92nd Amendment, 2004 :-Included Bodo, Dogri, Santali and Maithali as official
languages. (18+4 = 22)

93rd Amendment, 2006 :-To enable provision of reservation(27%) for other


backward classes (OBC) in government as well as private educational
institutions.

97th Amendment, 2012 :-Added the words "or co-operative societies" after the
word "or unions" in Article 19(l)(c) and insertion of article 43B i.e., Promotion
of Co-operative Societies and added Part-IXB i.e. The Co-operative Societies in
Constitution .

99th Amendment, 2015 :-The formation of a National Judicial Appointments


Commission (NJAC) .However, the amendment was quashed by Supreme Court
on 16 October 2015. (v. imp)

100th Amendment, 2015 :-Exchange of certain enclave /territories/ land


between India and Bangladesh. (v. imp)

122 Amendment Bill (GST)/ 2014:-It is regarding Goods and Service Tax
(GST) which was passed by Rajya Sabha on 03.08.2016 and Lok Sabha on
08.08.2016. Now half of the states i.e. minimum 15 States out of 29 tSates have
to ratify/ agree with this Bill. Then, it will become an Act. - important. (v. imp)
Assam is the first State in India which has passed resolution in the Assembly in
favour of ratifying GST. (v. imp).

Sh Amit Mitra is the Chairman of GST Empowered Committee of Finance


Minister of all States .He is Finance Minister of State of West Bengal.
