GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Watch the following short talk Creating critical thinkers through media literacy
You may have to skip the advertisement at the beginning - this is not part of the
video.
As you watch make notes on the important points. Also think about how the points
relate to you and your studies. You can watch the video as many times as you like.
There is also the option to watch with subtitles (although these may not be 100%
accurate).

TASK

Write a 400-word self-reflection based on the content of the video. The word limit is
+/- 10%. Do not submit your work if it is below 360 words or above 440 as it will not
be graded. The word limit does not include titles or list of references (if included).
Use size 12 Arial font/double line spacing.
Use language that is clear and appropriate.
Proofread your work for spelling/grammar/punctuation/presentation.
Present your work neatly.
Include coversheet for CW1

The three main criteria are:

Level of reflection - reporting, responding, relating, reasoning, reconstructing
Effectiveness of communication - accurate and appropriate use of language
Presentation - features such as font size, line spacing, paragraphing, spaces
between words, punctuation, general errors that could be avoided with proofreading.
ALDS4 CW1 2016-17

In your writing you can use the following questions as prompts for the structure (do
not include these as subheadings):

What were the main ideas?

What, in your opinion, were the most interesting/relevant/useful/ aspects of
the video? Explain why.
What have you learned from this?
How can what you have learned be applied to your academic development?

FURTHER ADVICE

To think and write reflectively you have to:

Experience something
Think about what happened
Learn from the experience.

Reflection is:

Self-awareness: thinking of yourself, your experiences and your view of the

world
Self-improvement : learning from experiences and wanting to improve some
area of your life
Empowerment: putting you in control of making changes and behaving in a
different way.
