Intro:
Year-long planning is the first step to ensuring that my students will meet their 7th grade mastery and be prepared for
8th grade. By mapping out what tasks we will be completing, what standards will be met, and when it will happen
allows me to focus attention to areas where I know students will need extra support and make plans to accomodate. By
organizing the plan for the entire year, I am setting up a clear pathway for my students to reash mastery.

Common Core State Standards are hefty with academic language, expectations, and practice. At the end of the year
students will have to take a state asssessment, the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium. In order to ensure that
I have adequately prepared my students and exposed them to all 7th grade content, it is critical that I plan out the
entire year. My year-long plan allows me to organize modifications and accomodations for students with IEPs, create
thoughtful and applicable lesson plans, address all big ideas in each unit, and spiral in material that students struggle
with.

My long-term plan is organized by the curriculum my math department uses, CPM. This gives me a foundation to build
off of. While I do follow the progression of content, I usually make modifications or judgement calls on what content
may be most important for students to access to master grade level content. A year-long plan is extremely helpful in
organizing what content needs to be addressed and when. After teaching this course for three years, I have been able to
see patterns of where majority of students struggle. By having a clear pathway and organization, I am able to ensure
that I will address all misconceptions and prepare students for all opportunities to succeed in 7th grade math.
