0 ECONOMICAL/ BUSINESS CONSIDERATION

5.1 Capital Cost Considerations

The capital cost in this project includes materials used fabrication and components of

the lock, support the electronic part. In order to increase the effectiveness in production decided

to re-use some of materials of previous Engineering Team Projects. However, some materials

have to be purchased since they cannot be obtained from the university. There are only one cost

need to be considered which are the cost for prototype size because this prototype doesnt need

scale down caause it is the actual size of the project. Below are the lists of items of actual and

prototype model:

5.2 Operational Cost Considerations

Operational cost that needs to be considered in Smart Lock is electricity consumption.

According to our analysis the operational cost (electricity) is relatively low use very small

amount of power because of the solenoid which will only use electricity to unlock the door.

Besides that, the eletric component doesnt use much electricity where 12V baterry is enough

power up the whole mechanism for 2 to 3 days. Furthermore, this system does not require

intensive maintenance for it to keep operating.

In term of fabrication, by utilize universitys facilities to build the prototype hence; can save

the cost of production.

5.3 Alternatives in Materials

The alternatives materials are indicated as below:

Metal plate Instead of using a new metal plate, can use the

remaining metal plate from previous ETP

projetcs because the parts that use metal plate are

small.

Wood Instead of buy wood, can use wood from previous

ETP projects because the functio of the wood is

just as a platform and to make a small door which

can use recyled wood and add some wood paint.
