PRELIMINARY

A. Background
Management as a social process, putting weight on the interaction of people, both those
inside and outside formal institutions, or that are above or below the operating position of a
person.
Management is a vocabulary derived from ancient French, that means art menegement
implement and manage. So far there is no word that is well established and universally accepted

In general, management is also seen as a discipline that teaches about the process for
obtaining organizational goals through a joint effort by a number of people or resources
belonging to the organization. In this case the management is divided into three forms of

people and utilize the resources owned by the organization.

A. Definition of Management
1.1 Etymology
Said management came from the Latin, the origin of the word mantis, which means
hands and agree that means to do. The words are combined into a verb meaning managere
handle. Managere translated into English in the form of the verb to manage, with nouns
management, and manager for people who perform management activities. Finally, management
translated into Indonesian into management or management.
The word management comes from the old French Menagement, which means "the art to
implement and manage." The management do not yet have an established definition and
universally accepted. Mary Parker Follett, for example, defines management as the art work done
through another. this definition means that a manager responsible for managing and directing
others to achieve organizational goals. Ricky W. Griffin defines management as a process of
planning, organizing, coordinating, and controlling resources to achieve the goals effectively and
efficiently. effective means that the objective can be achieved in accordance with the planning,
while efficiently means that the existing task done correctly, organized, and according to
schedule.
Said management may be derived from the Italian in 1561, manegiare which means
"control," especially in the context of controlling the horse, which is derived from the Latin word
manus, which means "hand". French then adopt these words from English into Menagement,
which means the art implement and manage.

1.2 According to the Experts
According to experts, the management itself is closely related to style, art and a vibrant
and dynamic processes within the organization in its efforts to achieve the goals and how these
goals can be achieved effectively and efficiently.
Luther Gulick provides a definition of management as a branch of science that seeks
systematically to understand why and how people work together to achieve goals and make the
system better cooperation is beneficial to humans.
Meanwhile, according to Stoner management is the process of planning, organizing,
directing and monitoring the efforts of the members of the organization and the use of resources
in the organization in order to achieve organizational goals that have been set.
Meanwhile, in the opinion of Mary Parker Fallet, management as an art (art) in completing a job
through other people.
In the above definition, management focused on business to take advantage of others in
achieving goals. To achieve these objectives, the people in the organization must be clear
authority, responsibilities and job duties.

The definition of management is more focused on business use exploit resources
available or that have the potential to reach our objectives. As these sources are people, money,

According G.R. Terry, management is a process or framework, which involves guidance
or direction of a group of people towards organizational goals or maksudmaksud real.
According Hilman, management is a function to achieve something through the
activities of others and oversee the efforts of individuals to achieve the same goal.
According to Ricky W. Griffin, management as a process of planning, organizing,
coordinating, and controlling resources to achieve the objectives (goals) effectively and
efficiently. Effective means that the objective can be achieved in accordance with the planning,
while efficiently means that the existing task done correctly, organized, and according to
schedule.

According to Drs. Oey Liang Lee, management is the art and science of organizing the
planning, preparation, direction and control rather than human resources to achieve the goals set.
According to William H. Newman, management is a function associated with obtaining certain
results through others.
According to Renville Siagian, management is a business that bergarak in the field of
services and is managed by experts as well as experienced tyerlatih.
According to Prof. Eiji Ogawa, management is of Planning, Implementation and
Control of activities including system manufacture of goods made by business organizations to

B. Management Functions
1.1 Five MainFunctions of Management
It is important to note that management is a form of work. Manager, in doing his job, has
to perform certain activities, so-called management functions, comprising,
1) Planning- sets goals to be achieved during a future and what should be done in order to
achieve those goals.
2) Organizing- categorize and define various important activities and provide the power to carry
out such activities.
3) Staffing- determine the needs of human resources, guidance, screening, training and
workforce development.
4) Motivating- directing or channeling human behavior towards goals. Bernard Berelson in
Siswanto, defines motivation as mood and mental attitude that memberikn manusai energy,
encourage, and lead and channel behavior towards achieving a satisfying needs or reduce
imbalances.
5) Controlling- measure the implementation of the goals, determine the causes of deviations and
take corrective measures where necessary.

1.2 Functions of Management
1) Planning
Planning is an initial process when they wanted to do a good job in the form of thinking
and framework for the goals to be achieved to obtain optimal results.
"Self-audit" - determines the state of the organization right now.
"Survey" - environment.
"Objectives" - destination.
2).Organizing
The teachings of Islam always encourages its followers to do everything well organized,
because it could be a truth which are poorly organized will easily be able disorderly by falsehood
neatly arranged.
According to Terry organizing is the basic activities of managemen theld to manage all of
the resources required, including the human element, so that the work can be completed
successfully.
Organization in the Islamic view is not merely a container, but rather focuses on how a
job is done neatly. More emphasis on setting organizations working mechanism. In an
organization there must be a leader and subordinates.
"Identity" - set carefully and specify the work to be carried out.
"Break work down" - to divide the work into tasks each person.

C. Importance of Learning Management


After a description of management functions above, we can conclude that the
management is very important, given that management has important functions which have been
mentioned above.
Basically management is important because:
1. The work was heavy and difficult to do alone, so that the necessary division of labor, duties,
and responsibilities in the finish.
2. The Company will be successful Beik, if the management is applied properly.
3. Good management will enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of all of its potential.
4. Good management will reduce wastage.
5. Management needs to progress and growth.
6. Management responsible achievement of objectives on a regular basis.
7. Management is a guideline of thought and action.
8. The management is always necessary in any cooperative group of people.

D.Levels of Management and Management
Manager is used in all forms of activities both professional and non-professional
activities, both public and private organizations, then the manager can be classified in two ways,

1. Line management: management or first level of the lowest rank in an organization

A. Conclusion
Management is the process of planning, organizing, directing and monitoring the efforts

Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Motivating, and Controlling. Because of these functions, then a
management is needed in the implementation of an activity or to achieve the objectives of an
organization.
