Draft revision of specification no. RDSO/PE/SPEC/AC/0138-2009(Rev'1')

of conduit system for cable management was circulated to all the conduit
manufacturers, Railways, production units, Mis. BEML & it was also displayed on
RDSO's website from 15.12.2011 to 15.1.2012 for comments I suggestions. Mis.
Tirupati Plastomatics (P) Ltd., Jaipur, Mis. MV Electrosystems Pvt Ltd., & Mis.
International Switch Gears attended the meeting. Mis. PMA, Switzerland through
Mis. SSK has submitted their comments on the draft revision but they did not
send any representative for the meeting.

1. Comments/Suggestions of Mis. PMA submitted by Mis SSK

Kapurthala vide letter no SSKIRDSOI01201 dated 11.01.2012 is not
as per requirements specified in RDSO's specification.

2. Mis. BEML vide letter no. GC-1/1702-Al07 dtd. 14.01.2012 has

suggested including some more fittings in the specification. All the
firms agreed about the same.

3. Each clause of the specification was discussed and following was

decided:-

~ ~

~ i/
(i) The Upper Continuous Temperature requirement should be changed in
clause 5.1.6 (i) from 115 deg C to 105 Deg C as specified in medium
classification of IEC - 61386.

(ii) Following note to be added in clause 7.1 "All the manufacturers are
requested to furnish the technical specification with the following details
against each model of the conduit: "Outside Diameter, Inside Diameter,
and bending radius" . It will be added in annexure in form of questionnaire.

(iv) The following note to be added in clause NO.9 of Marking & packing
based on the marking requirements of IEC 61386 "The manufacturers are
advised to mark each item with the vendor name or trademark or
identification mark. The product identification mark, which may be, for
example, a catalogue number, a symbol or the like, in such a way that it
can be identified in the manufacturer's literature however for the items
where it is impractical, then the mark may be on the label attached to the
product or on the smallest supplied package"

(v) The minimum thread Length of 10mm, for various types & sizes of end
fittings, to be specified in clause No. 5.2.1

(vi) The Material of construction for O-ring & Gaskets to be specified in clause
No. 5.2.1. O-ring shall be NBR however the Gaskets shall be Non
asbestos Reinforced NBR. Firms shall submit fire retardancy certificate for
NBR.

(vii) The Upper temp requirement of the Tube clamp as specified in clause
5.2.2 to be changed from 115 Deg C to 105 Deg C as per the requirement
of medium classification of IEC 61386

(viii) The firms are advised to conduct the IR spectroscopy of the raw material
as well as of the finished conduits & submit the results to RDSO on
priority. Firms shall inform RDSO at the time of the testing to witness the
test.

(ix) All firms suggested that in Para 5.2.1, the material of threading should be
as per the interface. If the interface is Plastic then the connector threads &
the Locknut should be of Polyamide -6 material and if the interface is
metal then the connector threads & the locknuts should be of Nickel
Plated brass.

However, the entire metal threaded length should be internally insulated

with Polyamide - 6 material. The length of the threads should be minimum
10mm.

(x) In-Line Connectors - BEML has identified certain applications in the

coach wiring to connect two conduits, of the same size, in line. The firms
are advised to develop the in-Line connector for fixing of two same size
conduits on both the ends. The Technical specification sheet, covering the
various connectors for various conduit sizes, along with the samples
should be submitted on priority.

(xi) Spouts - BEML has suggested that It is essential to develop the 2-way &
4-way spouts for the roof wiring in the coaches. The firms are advised to
develop both the spouts, in Polyamide - 6 material, which have necessary
interfaces at the ends to connect the conduits. The Technical specification
sheet along with the samples should be submitted on priority.

(xii) Corrugated Conduit to Pipe Connector - Several applications are

identified to connect the corrugated conduit with the Plain SteellPipe
interface carrying electrical wires. The firms are advised to develop the
connectors with interface on one side to connect the corrugated conduit
however on the other side to connect the Plain SteellPlastic pipes. The
Technical specification sheet, covering the connectors for various conduit
sizes, along with the samples should be submitted on priority.

(xiii) Flanged Connectors:- Flanged connectors (Straight & Elbow) are

required to connect the interface of ZS coupling (in LHB coaches) to the
NW70 & NW 90 size conduits. The firms are advised to develop both
straight & elbow connectors of the desired sizes in Polyamide - 6
materials & furnish the technical specification sheet with samples on
priority.
(xiv) Plug Screws - The Tables of Polyamide & Nickel PI ted Brass Plug
screws to be added in the annexure A of the draft speci . n.
