TREATMENT
History
The production of biogas, consisting primarily of methane and carbon dioxide,
discovered in the seventeenth century after scientists observed "marsh gas" b
on the surface of swamps. Marsh gas is methane, a product of anaerobic biol
degradation of organic materials. Mass transfer of oxygen from the atmosph
unable to maintain measurable concentrations of oxygen under stagnant water c
tions and high concentrations of organic matter. Under anaerobic conditions ,
which produce oxygen, are unable to survive.
