1. Planning:
The most helpful part of my lesson plan was the actual introduction. The introduction let
the kids get settled in and let me, as an educator, form small bonds with the class. Also, this let
me share the true techniques of the proper throwing and catching mechanics. I planned to
challenge the higher thinking skills of my students during the team games we played at the end
of the lesson. The game let students plan strategies for the best and fastest way to win the game.
A change I would make to my lesson plan now that I have taught would be the throwing lines. I
would like to increase the distance of the throws and maybe minimize the number of different
groups. The WV CSOs fit perfect into my lesson, finding the CSOs I want to use then planning
out my lesson made developing my lesson much easier.
2. Implementation:
The best part of my lesson was the game the students played at the end. The students got
a chance to play a team game and practice skills they learned during the lesson. A part of my
lesson that needs work is closure, in particular getting the class all together in the last minutes of
class before they head back to their home rooms. My objectives and strategies were very age
appropriate. The assessment I did was student check list I made, each student had a number and
during the game I observed and marked which students were on each level of above mastery or
below. My sequence worked well, the students stretched, practiced the skills, then put the skills
to use in a game. The gym space is rather tight but it worked out okay. Setting up the classroom
before students got into the classroom really helped, I learned to do this after not doing it in my
first lesson. My grouping continues to work well, having students number off then match with
their respective numbers works really well. I did get a chance to ask students to provide a basic
demonstration of the techniques they learned but time was cut short and I didnt get a true chance
to question them. The pace was actually rather slow for students, they were excited and ready to
go with whatever I brought to the table. As stated in previous reflections a physical education
teacher must constantly be circulating the classroom, I did this majority of the lesson. During the
game I was rather stationary because the gym is small and balls were being thrown all across the
gym.
3. Clarity of presentation:
My English and voice level were good during the lesson. You must be loud when in a
gymnasium because the acoustic level is never a good quality. My teacher did tell me my voice
was really good for the setting which I am happy to hear. Going from lesson #2 to #3 I did make
a solid effort to cut my biggest pet phrase down, which is alright?. I did an average job of
doing this, I still caught myself at times but at least I caught myself. I explain instructions
quickly at times I noticed but students still seem to understand me well. During my
demonstrations of the throwing and catching technique students really caught on quick and I was
surprised by this.
