MG311 Project 2017, Semester 2, 2017

Students are required to organize themselves into groups of 3 or 4. The length of

the group project report will be not more than 3500 words excluding the cover page,
table of contents, references and other supporting documents. The Group paper will be
submitted in hard copy as well as through Moodle. [Each paper must go through
Turnitin, and must have a Similarity Level below 20% for academic honesty
purposes.]

Please choose only one of the following projects:

Topic 1
Talk to managers of a local company that have pursued ISO certification. Delineate
reasons for achieving registration, the supposed benefits, and the problems the company
came across during the process.

Topic 2
Interview some quality or production managers to determine whether their
companies conduct cost-of-quality evaluations. If they do, how do they use the
information? What types of quality costs do they measure?

From empirical data, look at the relationship between quality costs (e.g. internal
failure costs, external failure costs, appraisal costs & prevention costs) and 2 key
manufacturing inputs (e.g. materials and machine) for a manufacturing organization.

Topic 3
Procure information on an organization that has won the Fiji Business Excellence
Award [for regional countries, choose any organization of your choice]. In your report,
discuss the quality system practiced by the award-winning organization. Identify
elements of the organizations quality system. D i s c u s s the organizations
commitment and undertakings toward quality.

Topic 4
Research the impacts of internet on workforce management practices in a well-established
manufacturing firm. One possible approach would be to interview an HR manager at a
company that is building e-commerce capability. Another approach might be to visit the
websites of several firms, examine practices that may be described, and compare and
contrast your findings.
