Lesson Plan: Time

Learning intention/BLP: Students will be able to tell the time to the oclock, half-past and quarter-hour. Students
will be able to match the time between digital and analogue.

Curriculum: Tell time to the half-hour (VCMMG096)

Tell time to the quarter-hour, using the language of 'past' and 'to' (VCMMG117)

Tell time to the minute and investigate the relationship between units of time (VCMMG141)

Intro demonstrate time bingo game to students with Mr Walsh or ??? (5 mins)

Studnets roll a regular die and the time die which combines to make times. If their time matches one on the board
then they can cover that time with a counter once someone gets 4 in a row (across, down or diagonally) they call out
bingo. Game starts again.

Activity:

Students play time bingo game (20 mins)

Targeted Teaching: (10 mins per group TOTAL 30 mins)

Group A:

15 min intervals

EG: have analogue clock set to 1.30 what will the time be in 15 mins? Students write their answer on their individual
whiteboard. Students check their answer with the person next to them. We then work out the correct answer
together and move the clock hands so they can visually see the change in 15 mins.

Group B:

5 min intervals

EG: have analogue clock set to 6.20 what will the time be in 5 mins? Students write their answer on their individual
whiteboard. Students check their answer with the person next to them. We then work out the correct answer
together and move the clock hands so they can visually see the change in 5 mins.

Group C:

Minute intervals

EG: have analogue clock set to 9.15 what will the time be in 7 mins? Students write their answer on their individual
whiteboard. Students check their answer with the person next to them. We then work out the correct answer
together and move the clock hands so they can visually see the change in the minutes stated.

Ideas for minutes: 3, 7, 14, 19, 23, 36 (start easier and progress to get harder).

Back up activity:
Students work on time worksheets.

They use newspapers to find the times of their favourite tv shows or movies.
