INAUGURATION INAUGURATION

2015 rings in with safety month

Safety month January 2015 was kick-started with an inaugural
function at HQ campus where the senior management and
other L&Tites displayed their commitment to EHS by actively
participating in the event.

In his welcome address, Mr. M.V. Satish, Senior Vice President

& Head - Buildings & Factories IC, expressed that various
initiatives which are a part of Suraksha Jeet were now
bringing about a positive safety culture and changing mind
sets of people. However, there still seems to be a huge scope for
improvement in EHS performance, he indicated. MVS opined
that mechanization and technology had taken the front seat
at projects and there were potential hazards related to plant
& machinery and fall from heights which can be mitigated by
religiously following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
He also touched upon the need for better housekeeping
emphasizing that everybody should take ownership and
responsibility at the workplace to ensure that it is cleaned once
the job is completed or at the end of each day.

Mr. S.N. Subrahmanyan, Member of the Board & Senior

Executive Vice President (Infrastructure & Construction)
hoisted the safety flag and highlighted that the top
management should give paramount importance to
safety. SNS urged for better safety records by taking
into consideration challenges such as size and spread of
the project, complicated nature of work and untrained
workmen. SNS also lauded the Suraksha Jeet initiatives
such as IVRS, online EHS observation systems and the
Safety Innovative School that is coming up at Kanchipuram
near Chennai.

Mr. M. Kamarajan, Head - Environment Health & Safety

(EHS), B&F IC, briefed the gathering on the month long
events that includes road safety walkathon, elocution
contest, EHS quiz, fire fighting program, first-aid, spot L&Tites and their family members at the

HIRADC Perfecting the art of inspection

A Secure Safety Strategy
HIRADC (Hazard Identification, Risk

is a time tested strategy which when
implemented simplifies the process of
minimizing risks and enhances control
