LINEAR POWER SUPPLY: Half wave rectifier, full wave rectifier, bridge rectifier.
Various filters: L, C, LC, CLC filter (determination of ripple factor, efficiency).
Regulators: Zener regulator, transistor regulator. Switched mode power supplies,
uninterrupted power supply, short circuit protection circuit analysis.

UNIT II: 15 PERIODS


DC ANALYSIS AND AC ANALYSIS: DC analysis of a NPN and PNP transistor and
FET (discuss on Q point, load line, compensation and thermal stability).
Small signal model: AC analysis for transistor (BJT & FET)-ac load line (input
resistance, output resistance, current gain, voltage gain, and power gain).

UNIT III: 15 PERIODS


HIGH FREQUENCY MODEL: High frequency model for BJT & FET, Miller
theorem. Design: Transistor as a switch, transistor as a current amplifier, transistor as a
voltage amplifier, FET as a voltage variable resistor, FET as an amplifier.

CASCADE AMPLIFIER AND POWER AMPLIFIER: Direct coupled amplifier,
capacitive coupled amplifier, transformer coupled amplifier (design analysis). Frequency
& time response analysis of an amplifier.
Power amplifier: Class A, class B, class C (analysis of power, efficiency), Darlington
amplifier.

(Analog signal processing)

1. Design a 2nd order Butterworth active low pass and high pass filter for the given
cutoff frequency. Check the practical frequency response of the same with the
obtained transfer function.

2. Design an active filter which can filter out the 50 Hz power line noise in the
frequency range of 1 to 100 Hz. Illustrate on how to improve the attenuation band in
order to preserve the actual signal from being attenuated.

3. Design a differential amplifier cum filter which can amplify the difference signal in
the range of 100 Hz to 100 KHz by 100 times and filter out rest of the frequencies.

4. Design a differentiator to differentiate signal in the frequency range of 100 Hz to 1


KHz.

5. Determine the effect on CMRR due to the difference in capacitance and resistance
values of a differential amplifier cum filter.

6. Design an elliptical filter to reject the 50 Hz power line noise effectively from a
composite signal.
